Lebanese wine - it really is a thing! This is probably my 3rd or 4th time enjoying this red blend from Chateau Musar. This time, it was a 2002. Beautiful wine, luscious, powerful, fruity but with nice acid and medium tannin. If you saw yesterday’s post you know one of our kids is a #wine geek. Day 2 of our tripped he really showed off with both wine selection and technique. We had a very impressive sparkling Pinot Noir from Slovenia ....a 1999 Chateau Musar from Lebanon....and a Paul Barre yummy Merlot from Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The funnest part was watching the kid disgorge the wine, as (unlike most sparkling wines) the Movia is not disgorged. The evening ended with a sampling of delicious Amaro’s. If you find yourself in the Boston area - treat yourself to a meal at Waypoint restaurant. The food was stellar. The wine list is amazing (the Musar was consumed elsewhere for the record). Have you ever had a wine from Lebanon? Just by coincidence, I saw a post from our good friends @exoticwinetravel Just a couple of days ago about Lebanese wine. Last night, I found myself at the battery, very cool club in San Francisco, and found this 2009 château most are red blend on the menu. I couldn’t resist. This is a fantastic wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan. This wine spent a year in French oak barrels, but in no way feels like an over oaked wine. It was balanced, with nice acidity. This wine is not released until seven years after harvest, spending four years maturing in bottle prior to release. My dinner guest and I knew we were getting Chateau Musar to accompany our dinner at Sachet - the only debate was white or red. We ended up with the 2007 Chateau Musar Blanc and I’m very glad we did! This incredibly complex wine is a blend of Obaideh and Merwah, which are the ancestors of Chardonnay and Semillon. The 50-90 year old vines produce an aromatic wine that benefited greatly from a decant. Initial intense notes of butterscotch candy gave way to lemon, apple, honeysuckle and bees wax. The finish was long and elegant and the wine paired incredibly well with the avalanche of small courses that we ordered!
