Words by: Irving Kahal & Francis Wheeler
Music by: Ted Snyder
As performed by: The California Ramblers
(recording as "Ted Wallace & His Orchestra")
Vocal refrain by: Sammy Fain & Artie Dunn
OKEH Record: 40961 matrix # 81924
Recorded on: 12 / 07/ 1927 ========================================== Popularized by Ruth Etting as seen here on the sheet music. (Ruth Etting seems to be getting the "Madonna" treatment from graphic artist Barbelle!)
This recording is a dance version by the Ed Kirkeby-led Califonia Ramblers & features the duo of Sammy Fain & Artie Dunn doing the vocal refrain. Fain became a composer in his own right & would become known (for a time), as "the crooning composer"! According to his wikipedia entry: "In 1925, Fain left the Fain-Dunn act to devote himself to music." This 1927 record seems to prove otherwise! In any event, this uptempo foxtrot is a toe-tapper! It was written by the trio of Ted Snyder, Francis Wheeler & Irving Kahal. Snyder & Wheeler had previous success with "The Sheik of Araby" & Kahal would eventually team up with Sammy Fain for many collaborations over the years.
