Kia e-niro EV in -40°!! Will it work?
FinlandTony
Just when you think it can't get any colder. The day after the -35 test, it is -40! -40 is where both Celcius and Fahrenheit meet. So this is both -40°C and -40°F. Do you think it will start and drive? Because remember, the media and the petrolheads [fossil fuel lobbyists] constantly tell us that EV's don't work in the cold? So it can't possibly start in -40, right?
P.S. Spoiler: Yes, it will start & drive...at -40°C! EVs are working during real winter...
We Bust FIve Myths about EVs and Hot Weather!
Transport Evolved
The weather in parts of the Northern Hemisphere is extremely hot, and that's meant we've heard lots of really bizarre myths about EVs and hot weather.
P.S. Local EV drivers have plenty of funny stories about foolish myths spread by conservatives and fossil fuel industry lobbyists! One of the most common myths in Latvia is that electric cars are not suitable for longer trips in hot and cold weather conditions! Although in reality, such journeys are easily accomplished even by small and medium capacity battery electric cars, if needed! The only limiting factor is not the capacity of the electric car batteries themselves, but the availability and reliability of the fast charging infrastructure.
In my opinion, the "sweet spots" for the introduction of electric cars according to road and climate conditions in Latvia, are concentrated around cars with 54-64 kWh batteries, which are already able to travel a decent distance (at least 320-350 km or 200-218 miles) and do not cost astronomical sums of money...!
Together with the existing subsidies now, the most technically capable and cost-effective offer comes from Volkswagen/SEAT dealers who sell the VW ID.3 Pro or Cupra Born 62/58 kWh battery version vehicles...! Of course, these cars are not cheap for the average compact hatchback buyer, but they are already quite close to semi-affordable car status...
Unfortunately, VW and other European legacy automakers are ignoring LFP battery technology...
The END Of Toyota: How Tesla Killed World's #1 Carmaker
Solving The Money Problem
Why Toyota (who once partnered with Tesla) are DOOMED!
Electric cars will not disrupt electrical grid, says French electricity operator.
(..) One such claim is that electricity systems will buckle under the stress of entire populations charging their cars at the same time, with widespread power outages being a potential occurrence.
According to the RTE, electric vehicle charging will only represent 10 percent of France’s electricity consumption in 2035. This, it says, is very manageable, with less of an impact than the change in the country’s energy consumption between 2000 and 2010. France currently has 500,000 electric vehicles on the road, but RTE says it will be able to accommodate 15 million EVs in 2035 without concern.
