Lipo 101 : The Tough Questions that nobody else will answer.
All of these issues are uncommon but they do still occur.
Skin Irregularities - Usually happens when too much or not enough fat is taken out and irregularities occur. These irregularities usually take the form of an indentation or a lump. This is not a common occurrence and can very often be remedied by going back in to even out the skin and underlying fat.
Scarring - Scars will always happen when the skin is broken in any way. Here at MyShape Lipo we make small incisions in areas that are hidden and hardly ever seen unlike a lot of our competitors.
Post Op Bleeding - With any procedure, when fat is removed it is possible to have bleeding. We use Epinephrine during the procedure and it causes the blood vessels to constrict. It also makes skin change colors briefly during the procedure. There is always going to be a little blood. Fat is yellow because of the use of the epinephrine. It causes blood to be pushed away from the area where the liposuction is occurring. The fat can have an orange tint. This is because it is mixing with small amounts of blood. Bleeding usually only occurs during the procedure most often. Bleeding after the procedure is often just “old” blood that was left over after the the procedure.
Blood Clots - Something that is a risk with just about any medical procedure that you have done. Clotting happens to make the body stop bleeding. Our patients are still able to move around after their procedures and this greatly reduces the risk of forming blood clots. Remaining sedentary increases the risk of forming blood clots. After the procedure, we highly recommend that the patient gets up and moves around. Pumping your feet, getting muscles to contract, massaging, and just remaining moving all decrease the risk of forming a blood clot greatly. With LipoSuction blood clots are usually rare but they can occur. When they do occur, they often come from your thigh area. Stay on your feet, massage the area, and stay active.
Pulmonary Complications (Lungs) - The blood clot, if formed, can shoot up to the lungs. it is important to make sure you stay active in order to reduce the risk of blood clots.
Uneven results - In more cases patients are made more even just by having the procedure. But sometimes too much or too little fat can be taken out. Mistakes are very rare at MyShape Lipo. For every 100 procedures 1 mistake occurs and that mistake can usually be fixed fairly easily. This is a great example of that. If this occurs, and it is rare, we can just go take out more fat on the opposite side.
Cellulite Reduction - Cellulite reduction isn’t known to be treated by LipoSuction. Cellulite is not caused by fat. It is caused by fibers under the skin that effect the skins elasticity. Laser Cellulite treatment removes the bumps and dimples caused by cellulite. But if too many fibers are removed, serums happen. A seroma is the buildup of fluids in a place on the body where tissue has been removed. They often occur as a complication of surgery but can also develop after an injury.
Loose Skin - Most people about this. The loose skin that you have before is comparable to the skin after the procedure. The only difference is volume. Plastic Surgeons mislead patients about loose skin. The skin always bounces back. At MyShape Lipo we can use a laser to greatly reduce loose skin.
