my 2023, fitness wise 🫶🏻
a year of immense growth. this year, i tried. really hard. embarrassingly hard.
in years past, i had a smaller body. i had better cardiovascular fitness. i had visible abs (lol). it’s hard to change, and then show up again as a changed version of yourself.
i felt a little like a poser calling myself a runner. stepping out in a bigger body than i was used to and hitting the streets (of my college town, where everyone knows everyone). i had parts that jiggled that didn’t use to jiggle. and i was embarrassed that slow short runs left me winded and tomato-faced.
but i kept showing up. i kept trying. embarrassingly, earnestly trying to achieve my goals and maintain sanity while struggling under the weight of a rigorous thesis masters program and phd applications.
and it was a realization for me that the only way to actually achieve anything, to actually give your life the full shot that you deserve, is to put yourself out there. to embarrass yourself. to let people see your jiggling bits even if you don’t want them to. i am so proud of myself in every way from this past year. my boyfriend keeps reminding me that i had a killer year, and frankly he’s right. this was probably one of the best years of my life, in regards to personal growth and development.
i tried. really hard. embarrassingly hard. and i’m so glad i did.
listen when you have an empty gym…you take some photos of your back muscles 💪🏼
working on my pull ups after my full body strength workout. did some seated pull ups, some dead hangs, and some scapular pulls. i can currently do one chin up, but i absolutely cannot do any pull ups bc my lats are just not there strength wise. working on it!!!
big goals for the new year:
run consistently
get faster
stay consistent with full body strength
rep pull ups
Okay yeah I lifted anyway.
I couldn't help myself. I don't know if it's because I'm post-run and post-yoga or if its because I haven't trained for WEEKS but that was the WORST upper body session I can ever remember doing on the basement weights. Probably a mix of both. And of course I'm too proud to decrease the weights, so I'm struggling to do 4-6 reps... Like seriously fatigued after 10 minutes. But I'm trying to stay positive. I did today. And a bad workout is better than none. Next time though... Weights are happening at noon, then a protein shake, then running, and then yoga. I think that's best.
