Explaing bosselot is difficult without spoiling most of the plot of the mgs series, as naked snake and ocelots relationship is responsible for 90% of the problems and plot tbh, and I dont wish to spoil you in case you'd be interested in the series later. The artworked he reblogged was feom mgsv ( so i will be intentionally vague, as its major spoilers for the ending of that game) but shows snake and ocelot making out in the passenger seat as a third character drives (a third wheel pun) a truck. This is the same game where ocelot admits his "past" feelings for snake, but analyzing the scene, theres ques to this being a partial lie/deception on his part. And clearly by his actions in the previous games, that this love is far from past tense. I think he reblogged it a few years after his break with konami iirc too.
Then theres the snake x kaz beach date, the japanese aduio dramas, and kaz's quarrels with ocelot in the last game, which feel very much like them catfighting over snake and their romantic/sexual relationships with him.
Not to mention vamp and col scott dolph being the first bisexual vg character in mgs 2, the boss having established relationships with both men (mgs3) and women (pw), col volgin having with relationships with both raikov and eva(mgs3), and meryls comments about no longer being attracted to men (because of psychotherapy?), while not specifying the same about women (mgs1)
Then theres kojimas comments outside of text in interviews about ocelot x snake being likened to a "pure love", otacon x solid snake being compared to johnlock, and other comments that are hard to decipher/parse for me, but i dont think hes suggesting queerbaiting, as much as complicated relationships that blur platonic/romantic/sexual
There is a lot of tragedy that happens with many of these relationships, as with a story that deals with the effects of war, nuclear conflict, espionage, and a certain amount of real world politics, but thats also far from saying that queer relationships within mgs are meaningless/not real/ have little impact
Sorry for such a long ask, but I do hope it makes sense?
That's pretty crazy in a good way! I wouldn't have imagined anything like that coming from Kojima, I confess. But I'm glad to hear these details about the MG universe. It made me feel more relieved about Higgs and Sam, that's for sure, and it clarified why I sometimes felt that there was a lot of homoeroticism in DS (does that make sense?), so I guess it was the same in MG, but it became more and more real, I guess?
