...the next day, with Dr. Seward...
Sounds like Jonathan and Arthur are having a difficult time of things. Dr. Seward heard from the locals that the steamboat broke down when they were trying to force it up the rapids. Arthur was able to patch it back together but it;s still in rough condition. It keeps starting and stopping. Dr. Seward hopes he and Quincey will catch up with them soon so they can be of help. Maybe via their horses.
...the same day, with Dr. Van Helsing...
Uh oh, there's trouble with Dr. Helsing and Mina too. Perhaps it's an effect of time, perhaps it's due to proximity, either way Mina is showing more signs of vampirism. She's not well and Dr. Helsing is getting frightened.
Mina sleeps heavily throughout the day without waking but is bright-eyed and energetic at night. Her appetite is gone, she isn't eating. She isn't journaling with her stenograph so Dr. Helsing has taken up the daily reports. The hypnotism sessions no longer work at all, not even a little bit, and she is suspiciously familiar with the path to the castle. She says it's due to what she read in Jonathan's journal but Dr. Helsing is uncertain. He did compliment the journal some though.
Dr. Helsing himself is growing worn. He's become sleepier, scareder, colder. The cold, the stress and the exertion is getting to him.
But at least they're getting close. Their path is getting rockier, higher and older as they go on. They're going through the Borgo Pass now.
...the same day (evening), with Jonathan Harker...
The accident with the boat really did them in. Jonathan and Arthur have given up on the boat, moving to horses instead. Arthur is preparing their horses and Jonathan is writing this. They're taking their arms as well in case of a fight. Poor Jonathan is scared sick for Mina and beyond frustrated they lost their chance to catch up to Dracula on the boat.
