Priscilla had just finished up a show, and came over to sit on the only free seat. Which just happened to be the Cat Witcher. She hadn’t met any of the Witchers that were from the school of the cat. She was more familiar with the wolf boys. The Kaer Morons as she liked to call them. But she knew a Witcher when she saw one.

“I don’t think that we’ve been introduced but, I know a Witcher when I see one.” She smiled at him brightly. The troubadair was a relatively friendly person, and she always considered herself to have no enemies. She’d even managed to get through to Geralt’s soft side. Wrote a song about his love life and everything.

Ernessa entered the chambers of her dear cousin only to find him with the court’s prized witcher. He was a good one as far as the gossip went but she had never made his acquaintance in person. Being the emperor’s most beloved cousin had its benefits and she did consider them great friends but the age difference between them alone made their relationship more akin to that of a father and petulant, rather impulsive child. Emhyr had learned quickly that it was best to let Ernessa run amok as she pleased but he was still the emperor and if he saw fir to intervene, he was going to do so.

His cousin did the necessary curtsy and helped herself to his wine, petulant he thought but corners of his lips did curved in faint smile. “Well dear cousin, it is my understanding that you are to travel North in pursuit of one of your many whims and it is also my understanding that you are off to chase a treasure of sorts. Cursed treasure, I believe is the words used by your brother to describe your intentions.” He tilted his body towards the witcher, motioning for him. “As my most trusted and capable, he is to accompany you in your little hunt…”

Ernessa looked at the witcher in interest, her lips in a faint pout. “Isn’t baby sitting your most precious cousin a bit above his skill set?” There was mockery in her voice, thought mostly in good nature. “Very well I suppose.”

Emhyr knew the witcher could most certainly find work elsewhere under his command but he also knew Ernessa’s singular talent at creating trouble only with a smile. “You have a soft spot for monsters, think of him as one of your little pets.”

She raised her chin in defiance. “They are not pets but should I ever find myself in need of one I can always return to court and choose one amongst our many cousins vying for your undisturbed attention.”

“Trust me, cousins make terrible pets.” He stared at her in exasperation and slight frustration, though this was fairly normal part of their interactions and he always had great love for her. “It is decided, you can either take the witcher or I can lock you in a very comfortable dungeon till I have a change of heart.”

A scream, long and high jolted the warm night near the heart of the Nilfgaardian Empire; where all had been slow, crickets chirping from corner to corner and the scent of slowly wafting jasmine, climbing the turrets of the castle, carried in the air - it was as if everything stopped short and the city gasped in unison.

After that night, people living in the outskirts, just beyond the last stone walls began to go missing if they left their homes and strode too far from their fields. Hunters mobilized and disappeared into the forest bordering rocky outcroppings, and most never returned. Witnesses were scarce, though it was surmised the monster had wings and screamed like a May chicken - feathers were found in ravaged fields of wheat and corn - feathers the size of forearms, charcoal grey.

The Sorceress had heard of this in whispers within minds, a silent worry that whatever it was would move closer, attack within the walls. Where most would feel pity, even a tinge of fear, Ysmay saw opportunity. Monster bits weren’t the easiest to come by, for her experimentation especially, if she could get close, perhaps even have the whole thing herself, well...

She would need a Witcher. 

Her message, quick as she could think it, went out almost immediately to Emhyr’s favorite, if he ever had one. A Cat - she’d never met him before, yet had never needed to.

Witcher, 

The service of your silver sword is required once again. A beast of mystery rampages just outside the town of Forgeham and may move to Metinna - call upon me for details.

   🌹  The Witcher just sat there perched upon the fence watching the passersbyers from under his hood, not that they wanted to bother him of all people. A loud crunch every so often from the simple meal in his hand. This was the only time he’d get to just ‘chill’ till heading back out on the road. Having just gotten done with a large contract Jarlath didn’t want to watch the gold dry up to quickly. 

         One day. One day he’d tell Maria that he doesn’t mind the little to-go protein and dried fruit packs. Though as he munched away at the apple chips he scoffed at the sunflower seeds. They always tasted like how boxes at let on the pier smelt, but he didn’t want to insult the knights generosity.
