You can do bittersweet ending? Really? Please teach me. I'm weak, if it's not a happy ending, I can't deal with it. It's beyond my power. Life is too much heavy, difficult and all to accept bad endings (no, I'm aware that life is not all that bad, I've my happy moments too). I know, I know, someone loves angst and it's totally fine, but I can't. When I'm reading it's okay if something bad happens in the story, it's okay, but the end has to be happy. It's a spark, a moment in my life when I can be totally happy and be sure about that, be sure that I'll have the famous happy ending. Sorry, I'm babbling, but you made me think. 😂
I love asks and talking fic and clexa so never worry about rambling.
Truth is I don't looooove bittersweet endings, I can just kind of take them. It depends on the story really, and how everything plays out. Like technically I've written a couple myself 😬. The really weird ghost au from forever ago, that was more than a little bittersweet. And I suppose you could count the ending to It's You, Isn't It as bittersweet. Idk.
But yes generally I'm only here for the happy endings. The triumph and timeless love that is so rare irl. One of the greatest fic endings I've ever read was the ending to steklir's More Women Than Warriors. Oof, cry every 👏 single 👏 time 👏
@gramjams @weasal @femininenachos Thanks for the fic recs from Ep 4 of The Hunner podcast. I was already a fanatic follower of This is Heaven in Hiding by @orangeyouglad8. I had not heard of More Women Than Warriors though by @steklir (SilentStars.) I’ve been reading it all weekend. It’s sooooo good!
@steklir my fave fic ever: more women than warriors
I so often think of MWTW even though I started reading it a very long while ago. Lexa's work ethic in your story has actually been something of an inspiration to me, so I thank you personally for the law degree I'm working my way through now. I've always wondered what your Lexa would be like after leaving Polis. She spent her whole life at boarding school obviously under different circumstances to most people, but I feel that the freedom allowed by university would shock her a lot. Thanks again!
Wow, that’s so awesome to hear—thanks so much, and congrats on all your wonderful further education! I confess I’ve tried to do the same with Lexa’s work ethic and always fail miserably, so please accept my undying respect :-)
That’s a really good question. Because on the one hand, people who went to boarding school are usually incredibly prepared for university/independent living because they’re used to living without parents and sorting things out for themselves. And somewhere like Oxford is basically a boarding school with *slightly* more freedom, with their college structure and the level of support (though if I tried equating a porter with a housemistress, they might actually spit on me). Not to mention the 900+ years worth of tradition—Lexa loves all that, obviously.
But you’re right, there’s also an element of freedom and having less top-down supervision that might come as a shock. Honestly though, Lexa’s spent her life trying to ensure she’s not dependent on anyone and not being a burden, so I think Oxford will be a relief. For the first time she really isn’t dependent, having earned her way to University through the traditional route (rather than what she might consider to include an element of ‘pity’), and that alone relieves so much stress from those little shoulders.
But yeah, other things, like doing laundry and shopping for groceries—it’s an adjustment!

MWTW update coming anytime soon? I loved the presidential au but am ready to see how things are going across the pond :)
Me too, I’ve missed them! Got a lot of writing done today, so that’s moving along. Hopefully soon but making no estimates on dates right now.

I love the idea of MWTW Lexa being super useless at the grocery store. I can only image how insane it is whenever Clarke takes Lexa to the States and she experiences all of the super giant grocery stores. I feel like they'd have to dedicate half a day to Lexa just wandering the aisles while Clarke trails behind actually getting their groceries and gazing lovingly at her gf.
Hahaha, love that. Though I have to note that while half a day or more will definitely be necessary, Lexa will hate every minute of it. She does not like jumbo-sized grocery stores, let me tell you. Too many options, so much marketing and misdirection.
(Nah, she doesn’t hate it... I mean, Clarke’s there, so... ♥)
