im curious, can mousy be trans or is that off the table?
Not everything will be in the prologue since I am not that educated in the topic because its different from now-these days or modern, I should say.
I wish that my great-aunt (?) was still alive, lol, she was transitioning in 1988, I believe.
Mousy can be transgender! ( or transexual, since it's the 1980s-1992). They will be open about it, not saying they're transgender (like they won't tell that they're are transgender to everyone, because why would they?) because again, hate crimes are a thing.
That isn't off the table, which is why the warning for "transphobia" is there, this is another reason why Mousy ran away from home and cut off contact.
I believe the steps to change a name are filing something, attending a hearing, and more, which will be mentioned in the prologue. (then updating everything else) But still, you will see misgendering in the game because that was the hard part, updating everything after changing a name / gender, so for example, you play as an transfemale Mousy, and you will see a birth certificate say "sex. male"
You can choose to get surgery, not, which will add in scenes / texts that mention it.
Depending on your choices, some characters will question it, you can also choose to be on testosterone, or estrogen, or not.
Accessing transitional tools were hard, because it was gate-kept, cost a lot of money. Treatment was required (typically) mental health exams, seeing a therapist, and recommendation letters.
(also had to find a doctor who was willing to do surgeries or help with the testosterone/estrogen)
Remember Mousy ran away and none knows about their past aside from Fran and V, so the neighbors and other characters would question it. Depending on your choices.
(if trans) Mousy realized around 13, that they were not their gender. They would have done the surgery, when they were 21, because Fran came back at 20 years old.
