Ostin: the brains of the team

Probably the shortest member of the electroclan.

Before Michael came along Ostin was completely alone and didn’t have any friends.

He got bullied a lot, but it just got worse the older he got.

When he and Michael officially became friends he was really happy.

The first time he went over to play video games at Michael’s apartment was probably the best day of his life.

His parents argued a lot and they would snap at him whenever he tried to get them to stop.

After a while he just went over to Michael’s whenever it happened.

He skipped a grade when he was in elementary school and is a year younger than Michael and the other glows.

When he went into high school the bullying got tremendously worse. Jack, Wade and Mitchel started picking on him and physically harming him and Michael.

Ostin was an easy target, more so than Michael, so he was bullied more than Michael was. They started traveling together as much as they could so that they would have more of a chance when fighting back. It didn’t really work out that way.

Ostin tried to tell his parents what was happening, but his father just basically told him to ‘man up’.

His mother began to really worry about him, so he would use some of her makeup, mostly the concealer and blush, in order to cover up the bruises on his face and arms.

He would always make sure to clean his and Michael’s wounds properly so they could heal well and not get any infections.

He once tripped and landed on something really sharp when Jack, Wade and Mitch were picking on him. It was pretty bad and he had to give himself makeshift stitches. Thankfully it healed fine.

His mother still doesn’t know that it ever happened.

The first time Michael used his powers in front of Ostin he didn’t even realize it. They were in Dalastorm’s office as 9th graders and they were sitting in chairs that had metal legs. Michael’s foot was touching Ostin’s chair and Dalastorm said something really shitty and Michael accidently pulsed. Ostin yelped and jumped out of his chair, but didn’t think it could be connected to Michael.

The time that Michael was a lot more obvious with his power was a month or two after that. Ostin and him were hanging out in his room and his phone died. Without thinking about it, Michael let a little spark into his phone to charge it. When Michael realized that he messed up he just kinda slowly looked up at Ostin and they stared at each other for a few seconds in tense silence. Eventually Ostin blurted out, “What the hell was that!?” It was the first time he had ever swore in front of someone.

During the abuse he received from Jack, Wade and Mitch, he would use books and video games to dissociate and forget about everything.

Comfort food was a life saver for him. Whenever he was sad, it was straight to the fridge.

I headcanon him as omnisexual with a preference for girls.

He didn’t really get a lot of praise at home, but he did from his teachers when he got good grades on tests, which is why he always looked forward to them.

He decided to learn Spanish because he was bored and wanted to challenge himself.

He was very close to having multiple panic attacks on the way from Idaho to California.

He has a lot of mixed feelings about Jack. He thinks that he's a hero, but will never completely forgive him for what he did to him and Michael.

Definitely jealous that Jack and Michael have gotten closer. He secretly hopes that he doesn’t get replaced.

Jack called him 'marshmallow’ sometime during the third or fourth book.

Ostin thought he was trying to be rude at first, but soon realized that the term was used as an endearing nickname.

He isn’t as oblivious as people think, but pretty close.

He thinks that Zeus is cool and knows that he was picked on a lot for something that was a little like what Ostin was bullied for, so he tries to be nice to him, even if he was pretty mean to Ostin at the academy.

He asked McKenna if she was sure when she said she wanted to be girlfriend and boyfriend.
