thinking of my connections to other humans as metaphorical cannibalism has positively shaped my interactions for the better. caring for people is tough. it should feel natural, feel good and true, but it's not always easy. relationships (platonic, romantic, sexual, etc) are you and your loved ones choosing each other again and again until one or both of you dies or moves on. these are structures as precious and multilayered as a food web. how do you make sure yours sustain you?
framing my friendships as a kind of mutual consumption is really grounding. who do i love so much that i want a piece of them? that i'm willing to offer a piece of me in exchange?
what I love about the "[x] isn't enough I need to eat it" meme going around is that we're finally acknowledging that to consume and to be consumed are both destructive AND devotional acts. in order to enjoy something this way (or be enjoyed) you must also sacrifice part of it (part of yourself). and now you start to see the metaphorical cannibalism of pouring your heart into the things you love ...
