#muttrah

Muttrah is a traditional town just outside Muscat. It used to be the largest commercial area of Oman and still has a large port, servicing a range of craft, from cruise ships, commercial freighters to the Sultan's yacht. It's also home to Muttrah Souk, where vendors cater to locals and tourists alike with silver, traditional clothing, frankincense and other souvenirs. Muttrah is a very popular area for Omanis, expats and tourists to spend time - exercising on the corniche, drinking tea or coffee in the many cafes, and browsing in the souk and other little stores selling knick-knacks and silver.

My highlight on the corniche is the section of traditional buildings with intricate balconies and windows just before the Masjid Al Rasool Al A'dham. The mosque itself stands out with it's beautifully intricate minaret and dome. These traditional buildings and the Muttrah Fort contrast with the modern fish market constructed at the Sultan Qaboos Port end of the corniche.

Kullon Mena exhibition is an expression of empathy and human kindness. It is a forward-motion against the routinization of the consequences of war, away from the traffic in angry words and around the pervasive notion that privilege does not entitle its holder to empathy.
