January 6, 2021 - Grey-faced Petrel, Great-winged Petrel, Ōi, Northern Muttonbird, or Tītī (Pterodroma macroptera)
Breeding in New Zealand, these petrels spend the rest of the year in the subtropical southwest Pacific Ocean. They eat squid, crustaceans, and fish, usually feeding at or near the surface of the water, mostly at night. Nesting in lined chambers at the end of long burrows, females lay a single egg. Both parents incubate the egg and care for the chick.
