He hadnât gotten any name at all from the producer, but Joe hadnât thought much of it at the time. It was a blind date, after all. So when he walked into the restaurant only to be approached by her, it was a bit of a shock. The man had fucking set him up with his daughter? Most fathers would be chasing Joe away from their daughters, armed with baseball bats, or so he assumed. âWell, fuckinâ hell.â A laugh as he returned the hug warmly, still pleased to see Millie again despite his confusion. âOld Robert must like me a lot better than I thought,â said aloud without thinking, chuckling, before they both parted from the hug. âHasnât it? Letâs catch up, yeah?â Agreeing with her that it had been forever since they last seen one another, before he moved to join her at the table, pulling out his chair and taking a seat as she went after the waiter.
âHey, thatâs sweet of ya, but donât worry about it. Gotta move forward now.â Dismissively waving away the subject of what had happened to his band, also too casually. Despite the fact that it had been devastating, and he would do nearly anything to get the band back together now. âIâm alright, got a few new things in the works.â Not entirely true, but for some reason he felt a need to put on this confident front in order toâwhat? Impress her and make her believe that he was doing just fine? As if his mind was still treating this like a date, even though they were more or less old friends. Or at least friendly acquaintances.
Interrupted then by the waiter, who deposited their drinks on the table. He hadnât overheard exactly what sheâd ordered, so he grinned some at his own drink. âLook at that, you remembered.â Chuckling as he saw that she had ordered just what he liked. He then turned to peer up at the waiter. âGive us a minute, would ya mate. We havenât even looked yet.â Well, she probably had already looked at the menu while waiting for him to get here. But the waiter nodded and walked off to leave them to it. Grabbing a menu, his eyes skimming over it some before almost immediately darting back up to look at her. âSo what about you, then?â Distractedly glancing at the menu for another second, then back to her. âHowâs the jobâwhoâve you been writinâ about? Anyone any good?â
