The sound of his sharp breath brought him back to. His eyes were still closed when he groaned. His head hurt. Why did his head hurt?Ā
It felt like someone was slamming a rock against it repeatedly. He turned his head. That didnāt feel good either. He reached up. He couldnāt feel anything wet there, at the back of his neck. No blood. That was good, at least. He knew that much, though it wasnāt much to go on.Ā
Slowly, he blinked his eyes open. The light hurt too, for a little and he moved so he wasnāt staring up at the light above him anymore. He was on the floor.Ā
On the floor...of that damned antique shop. He was looking at the shards of something broken on the floor and the shade of an old, ugly looking lamp that looked like it belonged back in the 1930ā²s.Ā
When he got back toĀ āmumā he was going to have some words. Most of them starting with fuck, or hell or some other choice word like that.Ā
I think Iāve just about had it with that woman.Ā
He was waiting for a response, a quip or a hum of agreement, but it never came. Did you hear that voice?Ā
There wasnāt a response to that either. His brows furrowed, though it did nothing to ease the pain in his head. The being hit with stone feeling had slowly come to be replaced with the distant din of buzzing, but no matter what he did all he could hear was that sound. It was like a swarm of bees. Or a crowded soccer field. A cacophony he couldnāt make out. He closed his eyes again. It didnāt help. Instead the sound split, one scream becoming louder than the other. He couldnāt tell where it was coming from until he could.Ā
The screaming was coming from the inside of a manās head. He had rounded the aisle and stood at the back of it, hunched like a cat rearing to pounce and panting like heād just run a marathon. He looked rabid. And then he was running, straight towards him as he started to get up, just a little too late. He wasnāt on his right footing, just then.Ā
He fell back to the floor, with the rabid man with screams in his head on top of him, trying to claw at his throat.Ā
