Logan’s uncanny ability with words never ceased to amaze her. Even in this moment right now, where she just wanted to leave--- his words pierced right through her. Veronica knew this could happen, and was why she hoped he wouldn’t be home. Maybe his words wouldn’t hurt as much if they weren’t true. But she had high expectations and a lot of disappointments. Hell--Life with Logan was like a rollercoaster.
There were thrills, but there were so many inconsistencies. Maybe if she wasn’t a PI, she wouldn’t be so paranoid. But there was a part of him she didn’t think she’d ever get to know. And boy did she want to know that part. But hoping for someone to change, and them actually changing were two different things. She knew she couldn’t change, so why fight for their relationship if they were doomed?
Oh, but their good times. They were so good. Even now as they glared at each other, she could feel the energy between them. Almost like a sizzle. She loved relishing in it. Like a drug. One she couldn’t get enough of. But that was the problem. She was a junkie. Needed to break the habit. If not for herself, but for him too.
“We tried, but it didn’t work---It shouldn’t have to be this hard.”
She was ready to argue more, but he moved to the side, granting her access. Without a pause she went through putting her duffle on the sofa as she opened one of the closets. She reached for a shirt, but he wasn’t done yet. His words were hard, and even. There it was, a finality to them even she didn’t have the courage to give. She stopped, turning around to look at him. His face was stern but torn. She was having trouble with her poker face because all she could do was look hurt.
She asked for them to break up. He wanted to fight. But she was so tired. Veronica put her hand on her forehead and looked down feeling defeated. But at the same time, the scrappy part of her was fighting within. Don’t show your relenting, Mars. This was what you wanted, he just said it first. God breakups were hard. But it wasn’t just anyone she was breaking up with. It was the love of her life.
“Fine Logan,” she looked up crossing her arms. “No more games. You say you know what you want, but what about what I want? I hate secrets, Logan. I hate them. You hold so much back. You know my brain goes to the worst possible scenario. It’s the default for me. So when I feel like you’re keeping something from me instead of being honest...I don’t like the way I feel. I’m not the girl that’s hung up on what her boyfriend is doing all the time. That’s not me. But I feel like I’m turning into her because you don’t tell me what’s going on with you.”
