sara and august both offer each other a form of escape from their everyday lives. for august, it’s escape from his self-hatred; as sara says in s3e6, he loves who he becomes around her. she makes him feel special and she makes him feel useful, she makes him feel noble (not in the royal sense but in the sense of having high quality of character). sara, on the other hand, finds a sense of acceptance in august, which is a welcome reprieve from all of the discrimination she usually faces. this is acceptance both in terms of being accepted as belonging to high society as she so desperately wishes to be and being loved in spite of the neurodivergent traits that people have treated her poorly in the past for.
