Quick question for MFAU! For the hermits that can teleport, is their teleportation cross-dimensional? For example, could Mumbo teleport from the Overworld to the End, or would he still require a portal?
I mentioned this in passing at one point I think, but the answer is yes! It takes a lot more effort and a much higher skill level, though. Itās something Endermen are taught to do at a young age. Shulkers are a lot more stationary than Endermen and most use teleporting as a defense mechanism rather than transportation, so interdimensional teleportation isnāt something widely learnt or taught by them. X and EX taught themselves.

Ok so I found a old ask and realized time in the end is REALLY WEIRD so Mumbo gets caught up in hermit craft for a while and doesnāt realize how long ago he saw Grian so when he does find him Grian has had multiple mental breakdowns as Mumbo has been seeing him less and less so he thinks Mumbo abandoned him and when he sees him again he doesnāt hug him but instead he screams and yells at him while tears flood his face and Mumbo, realizes how horrible he was to his childhood friend. Then they hug
I uhh;; writing! Yeah;;;
Mumbo let himself drop down further, spotting another one of Grian's dragon head additions to an End Ship. It seemed like his friend had made a lot of progress since he last visited; he was quite far out now. How long had it been, anyway? He made quick work of searching the city, with no Grain to be found.
When the next End City he encountered had a ship but no dragon-shaped figurehead, Mumbo popped out of the sky and onto its decks instantly. He wasn't sure if he'd gone in the right direction from the last city, but it was worth checking out.
He ventured belowdeck first, but didn't find anything out of the ordinary, and then made his way into the End City proper. He immediately spotted a Shulker eyeing him suspiciously, but it appeared to be uncharacteristicly docile. The room was void of tiny Ender Dragons, though, so he stepped out onto a purple walkway and yelled Grian's name. For a moment, there was nothing, and then a yell of, "Go away!" Rung below him.
A frown found its way onto Mumbo's face at that. He didn't even think about entertaining the demand, of course, following his friendās voice through a couple of rooms.
He finally found Grian, curled into the corner of a room near the base of the city. His wings were held defensively around himself, like a barrier. There was a sleeping Shulker clutched to his chest, and Mumbo had to wonder how long Grian'd been there for the Shulkers to grow comfortable in his presence.
"I said go away," Grian mumbled.
"Is something wrong?"
Grian groaned, head dropping against the shell of the Shulker in his lap.
"I just- I just want to be alone, okay?" There was a twinge in his voice that told Mumbo his friend was lying. It was the same twinge he heard when Grian assured him that he hadn't pilfered any of his belongings at the end of all his visits. He sounded as if he was about to cry, or he already had, and Mumbo grew more concerned.
"Grian, seriously, what's wrong?"
His friend made a frustrated sound, and then lifted his head to glare at Mumbo. For the first time since he arrived, Mumbo could properly see Grianās face. Heād definitely been crying. He was flushed a pale magenta and he had deep bags under his eyes.
āWhat-?ā Mumbo began.
āStop pretending to care!ā Grianās outburst caught Mumbo off guard. He took a step back, having to resist the instinct to remove himself from the situation with a teleport. Whatever expression he was making, probably a mixture of confusion and concern, only served to darken Grianās glare. āNothing to say, huh?ā he mumbled, looking back down at the top of the Shulker in his lap. Mumbo noticed that it had woken up at some point, and was now glaring at him as well.
āIām not pretending,ā he defended. When Grian didnāt respond, Mumbo took a few steps towards him. āDid I do something to upset you? Please Grian, I donāt like seeing you upset!ā
āThen go away,ā Grian reiterated flatly, like all his energy had deflated. āYou donāt have to see me ever. I doubt itād make a difference. You barely see me anyway.ā
āGrian-.ā Mumbo cut himself off, forcing himself to properly digest what Grian had just said.
Time in the End was difficult - barely quantifiable. There was no day and night, and clocks simply ceased to function as soon as they arrived on the other side of an End portal. Mumbo wasnāt even sure time there was linear. What he did know was that it passed much slower than it did in the Overworld. What felt like hours in the End was mere seconds to those in the neighbouring dimension.
He hadnāt even been considering how long he was leaving Grian alone for. Months, surely, was a reasonable amount of time between visits. But how long had that been for Grian?
Though his friend never talked much about his time before meeting Mumbo, the Enderman knew it had been lonely for him. Mumbo had felt like an outsider around other Endermen, so he couldnāt imagine how Grian had felt wandering around alone for all those decades - centuries, even.
āGod, Grian,ā he mumbled, eyes wide. Grian glanced up, but didnāt speak. āH-how long has it been? Oh, Iām so sorry!ā He made an aborted movement towards his friend. Grianās wings twitched, a tell of the anxiety he was feeling. Mumbo backed off.
āItās fine,ā Grian told him forcefully. He sounded like he was trying to convince himself.
Mumbo shook his head frantically. āItās not! Iāve been a terrible friend! I didnāt even think!ā
āObviously you didnāt. With all that important Overworld stuff bouncing around in your dumb head.ā Grain waved it off, looking away. āOut of sight, out of mind,ā he added bitterly.
āOf course I think about you! Youāre my best friend!ā
Grian didnāt say anything, but his wings drew away from his body a little. Cautiously, Mumbo made his way towards the dragon. When Grian made no move to push him away, Mumbo crouched in front of him. He placed a hesitant hand on his friendās leg.
āGrian?ā The dragon stared at Mumboās hand for a few moments, before turning to look up at him. Mumbo pushed the Shulker off Grianās lap, before drawing his friend into a tight hug. āIs this okay?ā
He received a stiff nod against his shoulder, and then Grian began shivering. It took Mumbo a moment to realise he was crying.
āIām sorry,ā he mumbled into Grianās hair, and kept at it until his friendās sobs started to die down.
āStop it,ā Grian said, accompanied by a halfhearted shove. āStop apologising.ā
āNever,ā Mumbo declared, earning himself a wet, but genuine sounding, chuckle and another shove. They sat in silence after that, Mumbo gently rocking Grian until he felt his wings fall securely around him.
āHey... I brought some shiny stuff for you to steal from me when Iām not looking,ā Mumbo murmured. Grian snorted.

Ok to add on to another ask what if Mumbo and Iskall are In the end and they hear a very loud **** so they check it out and itās Grian but his tail is stuck in a shulker so he canāt get it out and the shulker wont let go. Them Iskall thinks for a sec and realizes that Mumbo wasnāt lying when he talked about a ender dragon hybrid.
W;; what are the stars for,? I think Grian tended to stick away from Hermit End territory, so theyād have to be End busting quite far out to run across him. Getting his tail caught is something heād probably do though haha
I know you havenāt been talking about the mob au recently but, just imagine the unfiltered amazement of the hybrids who have never seen the sun. Or grass just, the pure joy and love for their friends after they showed them a world so beautiful they had never even dreamed of is, incredible.
Ohhh no please do keep talking about mob fusion AU to me! I just havenāt been doing art >.<
Getting to the Overworld was different for most of these Hermits. X found his way there escaping from an argument with EX and to be honest? The Overworld was a lot. Most End-bound mobs are used to the emptiness of their home dimension. The Overworld can seem dense, and loud in comparison. It probably took Xisuma a while to feel safe there, honestly. Mumbo doesnāt really remember the first time he arrived in the Overworld. It was back when he was first learning to teleport, he was very young and just saw it as a new place to explore. Grian followed Mumbo out, and he didnāt really have the time to appreciate it until after making it to Season 6. Heād heard about it before from Mumbo, so he knew what to expect. But really, Mumboās words, and his imagination didnāt do it justice.
For the Nether mobs, the first thing that usually hits them is the temperature. This was especially true for Impulse, who didnāt have a fiery core to warm him like Tango and Zed. Tango was there to keep him warm while he got used to it, though. Similar to Grian, Impulse and Zed had both heard about it extensively from an excited Tango, and had some idea of where they were going. Zed had a lot more anxiety about it, hence why he waited longer, but in the end it turned out he had nothing to worry about. The Overworldās pretty damn cool, after all.
