Granted, the show has only focused on The Seven - Payback could be out and about somewhere, but! Considering Eagle the Archer had joined the Church of the Collective, we can perhaps assume that the team is either dismantled or not yet formed. Crimson was briefly mentioned by Starlight - maybe after SB went MIA other members went their separate ways, and we're looking at a possible reassemble. The timing is perfect: the first incarnation of Garth Ennis's SB had been known for killing Nazis by the dozen (along with other members of Payback). With the PR crisis Vought is in right now, this is the sentiment the need to keep their prices per share high.

It was really interesting to see Ryan Butcher's enthusiasm for reciting the US states: Ennis's SB was portrayed saying the names of states out loud while in battle. Not sure if this was a just a nod to the original, or if there'll be a direct correlation to TBTV SB.

From what Kripke has told us, his SB is going be darker than the original, I can't find the quite but I remember the words womanizing and jingoist being mentioned. I'm so excited to see what this means! For now I'm thinking that SB was kept in captivity for being a bit too patriotic. In the novels, SB did wipe out a shit-ton of Nazis, but also a large number of American troops. Could they have kept him captive to try to control him? Use him as a test subject to fine tune the effects of Compound V? It seems like a redundant narrative to have SB come off as a savior at first, only to show his true colors (as we've seen with most of the members of The Seven). What I'd love to see is SB eating up all the celebrity and purpose, and rallying the American people for a fight against injustice...but in a questionable way. There's a dark side to everything - even, sometimes, the "right thing". Looking at and challenging our perceptions of heroism in a way that shows us the ugly side of it all is powerful, unsettling storytelling and I can't wait.

I am truly excited to see Jensen in this role! The performances he gave us in Supernatural were amazing, even if he was always Dean in some way, shape, or form. I just have a feeling that he's a great fit, excited for this new prospect, and will give it his all. And - I know how this sounds, but...hoping "giving it his all" includes giving us at least a few seconds of him shirtless (he wasn't lifting 40 pound dumbells for funsies, right??) 😉

The only thing truly worrying me about this series is fan reaction. This is not lilkely going to be Michael!Dean, MOC!Dean, Demon!Dean - level bad boy. For anyone who hasn't read the graphic novels or at least scanned the wiki, Jensen’s role may be unsettling. This is satirical, super dark humor that's critical of hot button topics and how society reacts on either side of an issue. The novels and the show give us a glimpse into both what happens when unlimited and unchecked power goes awry, and how easily regular people are swung and swept up one way or another. While they can only get away with so much on the show, it's much much more than what they can do on the CW. With all the recent discontent in the SPN fandom, I'd really be sad to see Jensen getting flack for playing a character that may very well do unspeakable, triggerey things. Both storylines of The Boys are not afraid of showing us how truly awful people (civilian and supe alike) can be. So if you're just tuning into the show, it may be a good idea to get a feel for handling uncomfortable things. I will admit that when I first watched, I stopped after three episodes because it was a really unsettling portrayal for me. I even have to take the graphic novels in small doses, and I'm someone who's not offended or triggered by much.
