so i watched the '40 Minutes of Glazing Erwing Smith' video and while I got the typical dubebro analysis of Erwin that boils down to 'he's killed so many he's so cool' I really appreciate the video for in part reignite conversation revolving around my glorious, compassionate, kind, beautiful, king, but more importantly I appreciate the videos formatting
The video basically compiles all of the notable things Erwin has done in chronological order with jokes and very appropriate glaze sprinkled throughout, and seeing his actions in order and how the lives lost objectively escalate I feel like a third eyes been opened and I've been given a glance into Erwins psyche I never considered
Because when most of the original Levi squad died in recapturing Annie, it was (in a sense) a needed sacrifice to get more information. When many within the wall Maria, including children, we're killed in Annie's recapture, it (in a lot of ways) couldn't have happened differently. If Annie were in an open area, she'd escape again, and they already failed to get her into the sewer system so the next best thing is to have walls to hold her in, but imagine. Imagine the guilt
Those events in succession were objectively the most people Erwin Smith contributed in the death of, especially in such a short time. We know from his last conversation with Levi that Erwin is wracked with guilt about his pursuit of his dream. He already believes he's being selfish, for wanting information for his father, for wanting to use Eren, for making Levi watch more of the people he loves die, and now theres a mounting body count looming over his every decision
So naturally, when Levi threatens him not to go to shiganshina, Erwin refuses. Why wouldn't he? So many have already suffered in his pursuit of his dream, to give up then and decide not to see it through would mean those people died a doubly pointless death. They died for his selfishness first, and then they'd die for his cowardice
GAHHHHH RAHHHHH this guys so interesting chat i don't get how people can see the genuine hurt on his face during his last talk with Levi as he explains how haunted he is by all he's killed in the war against titans and think that he's heartless gahhhh
"Well erwin will do anything to pursue his goals" until I mention his non-violent plan to overthrow the fake king. People that use shiganshina as proof that Erwin is heartless and would totally do the rumbling bro lol are BRAINDEAD! on one side of the wall is the Bert throwing flaming houses everywhere (and Reiner but he's like dying and reviving its a mess) so, behind erwin is a wall hellfire in the form of burning houses raining from the sky and in front of him was z*ke throwing equally deadly boulders that were flattening the houses they were using for cover. So dear GOD what was that man supposed to do? Okay team let's turn around and broil to death and maybe also get stomped by the armored titan all the while causing foot traffic for the scouts attempting to hold their own over there.
