Memotone is the moniker of William Yates, a West Country multi-instrumentalist who produces incredibly cerebral, layered music with both acoustic and electronic elements, and all from the comfort of his bedroom. Combining subtle guitar lines, field recordings and wonky electronic beats, Yates is a master craftsman of the loop. He is currently signed to Black Acre, who are releasing his Multicolour EP this month. Having already attracted the attention of Radio 1's Huw Stephens, Memotone is definitely one to look out for. "Reluctant Funk"???? This is the phrase that Black Acre new comer, Memotone, uses to describe his debut EP. Although at first glance such a term may seem rather obtuse, after listening to the works of the West Country youngster, nothing else could seem more appropriate to sum up such imagination.

The 4 track EP set to drop in March, bleeds creativity, with influences from all aspects of music being incorporated in the works of Memotone. Lead track, 'Multicolour', which has already received airtime from the likes of Radio 1's Huw Stephens, is an audio masterpiece. Staggered drums, jazzy lead synths, and beautifully layered harmonies, make this piece of work undeniably captivating.

The same can be said about "Bellatrix" and "Clockwork Horse", with both tracks exploring different avenues within sound in a genuinely fascinating manor. The fourth track on the EP sees Lukid put his spin on Memotone's sound, with a remix of 'Multicolour' that holds a brilliantly intricate progression.

After a few listens, it will be immediately clear to all that this EP is another step forward for electronic composition, an electic montage that the fuses all the things we love about music into one enchanting piece of work.

The charm of Memotone's sound is unique to himself, and with such a high standards being set from a debut release, it is obvious that Memotone's music will continue to push the boundaries of sound in years to come.
