AFW - 11YRS - A Future Without label compilation
AFW 11YRS is a compilation celebrating 11 years of music that has been released on A Future Without. To celebrate this we are releasing two very special and very limited tape compilations (36 per cassette). Each tapes sleeve is created out of a unique analogue photograph, taken by us of places around Bristol, with a hand stamped wooden spine and a clip to hold it all in place. We’ve been honoured to work with a huge amount of talented artists over the years and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us. This compilation also includes exclusive and unreleased tracks from Zhou, schnuli, Qman1, Kabuki Mono, Achilles as well as a new collaboration from label owners Ross Tones & Will Plowman under the guise of Swaabi Maa.

Memotone - Hands
<img id="__mce_tmp" /><span id="mce_marker" data-mce-type="bookmark"></span><span id="__caret">_</span><a href="http://afuturewithoutpress.bandcamp.com/album/memotone-hands-ep" data-mce-href="http://afuturewithoutpress.bandcamp.com/album/memotone-hands-ep">Memotone - Hands EP by A Future Without Press</a>
Apparently, Will Yates AKA Memotone's most recently release passed me by completely. Last month, his Hands EP was dropped on Bristol/London based A Future Without. In a retreat from the abrasive, beat-driven work on his last EP, Hands is a deeply melancholic, intricately scuplted set of instrumental landscapes, and a testament to Yates' prodigious musical talent.
If that sounds good, give it a listen above.

Memotone + Boiler Room
In light of the travesty that is SOPA, let us give thanks to Memotone for teaming up with Boiler Room to release his most recent EP for free. Seriously though: thank you. William Yates-- the gifted musician behind Memotone-- showcases his boundless range on three original tracks and a killer bootleg of Aaliyah's "Try Again", which I've had on repeat all week. Yates' musical expertise means no genre is off limits; he draws from garage, electronica, r&b, classical, dnb, ambient, and just about any genre out there, meaning the EP is nearly impossible to categorize. Not that we're complaining-- his unpredictable style, paired with his exceptional skill, is exactly what sets him ahead of the curve. He often reminds me of Eskmo, one of the finest instrumentalist-producer hybrids on the scene--and that's a comparison I don't throw around lightly.Â
We'll soon be treated to a new release from Memotone on the UK label A Future Without, which I've no doubt will be superb. In addition to the free EP, you can also stream a track from the forthcoming release below. Memotone is for real, guys. Please check out his Soundcloud and site for more.Â

Sam Kidel & Vessel
Earlier this year, I wrote about a split cassette release comprising two Bristol artists; Vessel and El Kid. It turns out, when not laying down ambient bass grooves and lo-fi piano pieces, El Kid also records loop-based guitar textures under his real name, Sam Kidel. His first release in this vein is out now on A Future Without, entitled String Loops. You can preview it on AFW's bandcamp, where it is also available to buy on tape. This is however, limited to a run of merely 30 tapes, so if you want one, hurry up.
Coincidentally, Vessel also has also been busy, and has just released his Wax Dance EP on the same label. Vessel describes Wax Dance as
an account of movement and physical twitches made by the motion of sound.
Like his earlier work, Wax Dance is full of intricate detail and rustic lo-fi charm, while nonetheless retaining a deep sense of groove. If that piques your interest, then download the track "Blowback" free from XLR8R, while the full EP is available for the quite reasonable price of £3, from here.
