Decades after his death, the sorcerer world would still recount the past in two great periods: before the shift, and after. The shift, of course, was most commonly known as referring to the birth of one Satoru Gojo, holder of both his family’s prized techniques and the sorcerer of an age. Perhaps a disruption, planned or otherwise, was what caused the second half of the shift. One Naoya Zenin was supposed to be born on a cold autumn day. And he still is - except he also isn't. But he still could be. Time is funny like that.
Or, a SI fic that examines the impact on canon when one little element is shifted sliiiiightly to the right. Naoya isn't born Naoya, but someone else, with a different name and a different future. Armed with the (admittedly fuzzy) foreknowledge of what's to come - what was and what might still be, the newest Zenin struggles to effect any changes whatsoever when faced with the intricate and frustrating sorcerer world. In the end, sometimes all you can do is hope your convictions will be enough.
