Cat Intro Update: I believe Senna was only hiding all day yesterday because I had the AC on, because it’s pretty loud. I think it freaks her out. I turned it off at about 9pm and she came out to chill with me in the living room not long after that. She gave some of Wednesday’s stuff that was still out a quick sniff, but otherwise did not react at all, which surprised me.
I wanted to see how comfortable she was so I gave her a treat right outside the door to Wednesday’s room. It was a very high value treat, but Senna is very timid and even her absolute favorite foods won’t convince her to do anything that makes her nervous. She didn’t hesitate to eat, even so close to the source of strange-new-cat-smell. Wednesday was given the same treat just on the other side of the door and she ate it as well, though I’m not sure how long it took her to investigate it.
This morning, I fed Senna outside that door. Again, no reaction to the other cat at all. The only time I’ve seen her pay any attention to that door is shortly after giving her breakfast, when I went in to check on Wednesday. Senna saw me open the door and tried to follow me in, but she was very relaxed about it. As far as I could tell, it was just her wanting to follow mom because why not.
Senna was the one I was most concerned about and she’s completely surprised me. I’m not going to rush into visual introductions, but I think this is pretty promising. I’m just going to keep feeding them next to the door, and at some point in the next couple days, I’ll have them taking turns with free-roaming the common areas. We’ll see how it goes from there.
