5 What was your best moment in Medicine?

The moment when I passed step 1 of my licensing exam wass pretty great - in Germany that’s the point where people say if you made it this far you will most likely actually make it to be a doctor. Because beforehand a lot of people get kicked out, afterwards not so much. Also after passing you get to do all the clinical stuff, so this was pretty awesome. Also my first time in the OR was pretty impressive. I was with the anaesthetian and we did a spinal block on someone who got a total hip replacement - which I was absolutely unaware was a common thing - and the patient really seemed to enjoy to experience what was going on… 

8 Favourite medical fun fact?

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. Yep, we used to calculate such stuff in physiology :D

9 Funniest/weirdest thing that happened in one of our classes/rotations?

We had a biochem prof that was pretty funny. He used to throw sweets at people when they answered questions right in his lectures. Unfortunately he was rather bad at aiming, so he constantly hit somebody. He also told us once how he faked a diabetes to get himself discharged from military service. We also had a class on basic physical examination once. It was a very nice and warm day so our teacher decided we could do the class outside in the little park in front of the building. We ended up sitting there half naked palpating each others livers - i guess the poeple coming by were a little disturbed… :P

Report her ass to the police. That kind of cruel action and harm to wildlife has to be illegal.

actually i forever see Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras. He did the "fanatic crazy" beautifully in the 2010 O2 arena show. Like I don't think I've seen a person do the fanaticism better than Ramin.

It’s rare, but unfortunately autosomal dominant, affecting about 1:1,00,000 lives births in the US.

Hyperbaconwhiskenemia unfortunately causes a feed forward mechanism which results in continued and intense cravings for both bacon and whiskey. 

There is no cure, and the only treatment is supportive care, which as you might guess entails giving the patient as much bacon and whiskey that they desire.

Last time you cried: I’m not sure. Probably recently. I’ve been very emotional lately.

HAVE YOU EVER:

Dated someone twice: No.

Been cheated on: Nope.

Been drunk and threw up:  Uh, once. It was not pleasant and I don’t plan to repeat the experience. I was so sick, I honestly thought I might die.

LAST YEAR HAVE YOU:

Made a new friend: Yes!

Fallen out of love: Nope, haven’t been in love.

Laughed until you cried: Hmm, I honestly can’t recall. These past couple of years (pre-school) have been Dark Times for me. I’m turning that around, though :)

Found out who your true friends were: Yes, ish. I ended up somewhat estranged from a lot of my college friends for a lot of complicated reasons. But it was a valuable lesson. 

Found out someone was talking about you: I don’t think so?

GENERAL:

How many people do you know irl on you FB friends list: I’ve met all of them, or at least 99.99% percent, but some of them I barely know. I’d say I’ve talked to maybe 1/2-3/4 of them (at most) within the last 5 years.

First surgery: I think I had some kind of benign growth removed from my neck as a baby? But I haven’t had any surgeries since.

First piercing: Ear piercing at age 12. 

First best friend: Oh gosh, may Alexa? When I was like, 3 or 4?

First sport you joined: I think I was on a swim team at some point in elementary school or middle school. But man, I SUCKED.

RIGHT NOW:

Eating: Nothing at the moment, but I’m still kinda hungry so I might have a snack.

I’m about to: have aforementioned snack/take a shower and get ready for bed.

Waiting for: Seeing friends tomorrow, getting my first med school quiz over with, seeing my crush again on monday

YOUR FUTURE:

Want kids: Yes, definitely. Though maybe just one. At most, 1-2 biological (although twins run in my family so I might not have a choice) but I would like to adopt, I think.

Get married: I would like to, but only if I found the right person.

Career: Peds peds peds (she says, having completed 1 week of medical school. But peds!) I think peds endo.

WHICH IS BETTER:

Lips or eyes: Both? Both are good.

Hugs or kisses: Both again. I like both.

Older or younger: Older. I have siblings who are 2 years younger so dating anyone younger skeeves me out. Like, you’re the same age as my siblings = you’re a BABY.

Romantic or spontaneous: Both? Why do you act like all of these things are opposites. I want it all, dammit!

Relationship or hook up: Relationship. In this case I am decided.

Troublemaker or hesitant: Troublemaker, I think. I have terrible taste.

HAVE YOU EVER:

Kissed a stranger: No. I haven’t been that brave.

Drank hard liquor: Yes. Scotland taught me to appreciate scotch. Plus, like, more alcohol and beer is meh.

Lost glasses or contacts: Oh my god yes. Many times.

Sex on first date: Nope.

Broke someone’s heart: I don’t think so. I mean, I’ve turned people down and maybe they were broken up about it, but I don’t think any of them were in love with me.

Arrested: No.

Turned someone down: Yes

Cried when someone died: Yes. Though usually it’s not like the moment I hear about it, but at the funeral or something.

Fallen for a friend: Ugh this is my worst habit. I, too, have GREAT difficulty separating squish from crush. (It may also be possible that I am further to the right of the Kinsey scale than I thought, which complicates things a bit.)

DO YOU BELIEVE IN:

Yourself: Most of the time.

Miracles: I think that in a world of infinite improbabilities, strange things happen.

Love at first sight: I think you can feel attraction at first sight, sure. I don’t think love is something you can conjure in an instant.

Santa: No, never have, and totally ruined the game for my neighbor by accident, too. Her mom was SO mad.

Kiss on first date: Sure, if you want to.

Angels: Not really, no.
