I was the superintendent for these Ludlow Street apartments for about 2 years in the 80’s, down the block from Katz’s Deli, between Houston & Stanton. Bottom pic was my apartment, looked nothing like that back then. Some of our tenants Included Taylor Meade, Bad Brains and many other musicians and artists who were starting out. I also physically moved pianos for the landlord right across the street at, you guessed it, PIANOS, which became a music venue later on. In some ways one of the darkest chapters in my life and in others the most creative and exceptional times I’ve ever known. NYC has a way of doing that. And now I act like a tourist in my own city. Actually it’s hard to relate any longer, but I travel far and wide for my inspiration. August 2, 1982 @ Mudd Club NYC This was Steve and Al's first show with the band, our second rhythm section. It was a packed show and I remember when I tried to go in the bouncer said no one else is allowed in and I told him but I'm the guitar player and this poor bouncer had to escort me up to the stage.
