Day 5 -FOR THE WORLD TO SEE
The participants and their instructors met at the civic centre, the venue of the public performance, before 8am to begin rehearsals and get familiar with the stage on which they would be performing. Some of the lessons they had learnt over the course of the workshop had to be put to use, like improvisation and discipline.
By 2pm, the public event started with some solo performances from some of the participants. Particularly impressing to the audience was a performance by dance group, The Ambassadors, made up of 2 of the BornTroWay workshop participants and 2 other young men.
The BornTroway project Participants performed a dance-drama piece. The piece was created by the young people during the course of the workshop - the songs written, dance and drama sketches thought up by them - and they finally got the chance to show the world their abilities.
In one of their drama pieces, a man who did not appreciate his land and called it waste sold it off only to later see it prospering in the hands of another and like the young ones said, “One man’s waste is another’s wealth”. They sang different songs and some of the recurring themes in their performance were wasted dreams, emerging talents, and change amongst others.
There were a number of established artistes who also came to the event to support the participants and perform, such as MTrill, Danas, True O’Zee, Mr Robinson.
The participants were given certificate of participation after their performance at the event which was attended by Mrs Cookey-Gam, head of Greater Port Harcourt Authority, amongst other people.
