Today, I was more than thrilled to help celebrate the one millionth tree of the MillionTreesNYC initiative. It was an exciting moment to plant tree number 1,017,634 at Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx. Nearly 50,000 New Yorkers dug in and got their hands dirty throughout this program, helping us to reach our ambitious goal of planting one million trees, two years ahead of schedule. Planting one million trees is quite an achievement – but our work is not done. We will continue planting trees, and thanks to the additional funding in our budget, we will move forward with our aggressive planting strategy and will be planting another 180,000 trees over the next three years. We are enormously grateful to the thousands of volunteers and sponsors who donated time, energy, and funding to make Million Trees NYC so successful.
