This weekend I finally got around to measuring the slope behind my deck. It’s a muddy incline, perfect for tripping over, and I always end up sheepishly apologizing to guests about the “rugged charm.” In reality, it just means you can’t sit out there without rolling an ankle. I want a spot for a real table—morning coffee, drowsy summer lunches, the works.
