This is my second try at posting this... I hope you get to see it this time :D
Prologue
When Tom got a call from his publicist early on a Sunday morning, he knew something was up. His first thought was that he had accidentally spoiled something from a movie again. But that was not what this was about.
âTom. We talked about this. If youâre going to date someone you need to tell me about it.â She sounded like she had told Tom this about a hundred times. But heâd heard about this only once. He was confused because he didnât have a clue what she was talking about. Until he remembered the afternoon he had spent with you and that you had hugged him basically in the middle of the street for everyone to see.
âSomeone saw that? It was absolutely not what it looks like. It wasnât really a date.â He had no idea how he would explain what it actually was, but he didnât have to.
âThat doesnât matter now. The pictures are all over the internet. And Iâve got a plan.â
-
It had been a couple hours since you found out that the guy you spend your whole Saturday afternoon with was an international movie star. Weâre talking Hollywood. And you were fuming. He couldâve said something! But he didnât and now your pictures were popping up on more and more websites by the minute. No one had found your Instagram yet but it was only a matter of time until the follow requests would flood in. You wanted to call Tom and tell him off but you couldnât. You didnât have his number. You had to wait until he would call you. And you werenât sure if he would. You had done a little digging and found out that he hadnât really been spotted with someone in the last few years, besides his co-star Zendaya but they were apparently just friends. Your theory was that his agents, or whoever is responsible for his public image, wanted him to stay single, at least in public, so all his fans wouldnât be disappointed that he was taken. But that was just a theory. And it might have been one of 28 theories you had come up with this morning.
You were in Tesco stocking up on some comfort food when your phone finally rang. It was an unknown number. You accepted the call and before you could say anything Tomâs voice reached your ear.
âI am so sorry Y/N.â He sounded genuinely sorry, which made your anger dissipate a little bit.
âTom?â
âYeah. Yeah, itâs me.â
âYou couldâve told me that youâre an A list celebrity.â You kept your voice low, not wanting anyone to hear. You were afraid that someone would recognise you from the photos, so you were wearing a baseball cap that you had pulled as far into your face as possible. It probably made you look suspicious.
âAnd how would that have worked out? âHi, Iâm Tom. I shoot movies and walk red carpets for a living.â?â
âFor example.â You were standing in front of the freezers deciding which ice cream you should get when Tom called, but now you were just standing in the middle of the aisle, the ice cream was long forgotten.
âYou wouldâve thought I was a downright asshole.â
âArenât you?â The line was quiet. âTom, Iâm joking.â You heard him let out a breath.
âI was scared for a second.â He chuckled. âLook, it was refreshing to have a conversation with someone who didnât know Iâm an actor. Who only saw me as a normal guy in a coffee shop. And Iâm sorry that someone saw us and you got dragged into this whole thing.â
âItâs okay Tom, itâs not your fault. I was just caught off guard⌠What happens now?â
âWell, I wanted to talk to you about that. But I think itâd be better to do in person. Can we meet up?â
âUh, yeah sure. Iâm out anyway. Where do you want to meet? The coffee shop?â
âIf youâre okay with that. I donât know if thereâs gonna be someone taking pictures again.â Which wouldnât be a problem if you agree to Tomâs â or rather Tomâs publicistâsâ plan. But he couldnât say that.
âOh, thatâs alright. Iâm wearing a disguise.â You glanced at your reflection in the glass panel of the freezer.
âA disguise? Like what? Those glasses with the moustache?â He laughed at the image and you joined in.
âNo! Just something to hide my face, ya know? Anyway, Iâll see you there in about 20 minutes?â
âSounds good to me. See you there.â
You looked at the contents of your basket after you ended the phone call and contemplated whether you should still get three bags of crisps and carry them to the coffee shop or if you should just come back later. Youâre sure this talk wouldnât take long so Tesco would still be open then. You put the bags back to where you got them from and left the store, walking the short distance to the coffee shop. You glanced around you, afraid that someone would snap a picture of you. But you were sure that as long as Tom wasnât next to you, you wouldnât really stand out.
The table in the back where you had sat with Tom the day before was unoccupied so you sat down waiting for him. Not long after Tom appeared in front of you, in a similar get-up to yours, black jeans, black jumper, black baseball cap. He orders his coffee at the counter and joins you a couple minutes later, a steaming mug in his hand.
âWe probably look like weâre about to rob a bank.â You say as Tom takes a seat across from you.
Tom made a surprised face. âAnd here I thought I was going to surprise you with that plan.â You just rolled your eyes but couldnât help but let a small smile slip on your face.
âAnd what is the real plan?â
âIâm not sure if youâll find this funny because letâs be honest the irony.â He let out a chuckle. âOr if youâll be mad.â He looks at you for a moment and you signal him to go on. You were intrigued. âMy publicist thinks itâd be a good idea to be seen a bit more together. Because I donât have a movie coming out in the next couple of months and Iâm not doing any press either, itâd be something to keep my name in peoples minds or something like that.â He rolls his eyes. âSo she actually proposed the idea that we go on some more dates. Or fake dates, whatever you wanna call them.â
âIâm not sure if youâre being serious or if youâre making fun of me.â You look at him sceptically.
âIâm serious! That also means I can accompany you to your sisterâs wedding.â He raised his brows a bit, a smirk on his face. He knew how badly you wanted to take someone to your sisterâs wedding. You asked a freaking stranger to join you!
âExcept that instead of just lying to my family, weâre lying to the whole world.â
âPretty much yeah.â
You were conflicted. On the one hand, you really liked Tom and he would make a great impression on your family and you wouldnât have to deal with all the comments you would usually receive. On the other hand, this would make things so much more complicated, if the whole world knew that you were seeing Tom Holland⌠What were your friends going to say? You had obviously never mentioned Tom. You met him literally yesterday!
âDo I have a choice?â You didnât really. Everyone you knew had probably already seen the pictures and you didnât want to tell anyone that you didnât know him. Maybe you wanted everyone to think that someone like Tom would be interested in you. Movie star or not, Tom was a catch.
âOf course you do! I donât wanna force you to do anything that youâre not comfortable with. But you wouldnât have to do anything ridiculous. Youâd only have to hang out with me every once in a while.â He laughed lightly shrugging his shoulders a bit before taking a sip from his mug.
âI think I can handle that.â
Tom almost choked on his coffee. âYouâll do it?â His eyes were wide and hopeful.
âYeah, I mean, whatâve I got to lose? I canât really tell my sister that the reason I was with you was to lie to her and I really donât want to go to that wedding alone. And I like hanging out with you. Who cares who sees, right?â You shrug your shoulders and send him a small smile. Â
