How I imagine coming out to Gaz goes:

I think Gaz is the only one still in active duty. Price found him a flickering flame and fed it into a forest fire. There’s no way I see him leaving unless his hands are tied and he has no choice but to. (Similar to Soap but Soap is already medically discharged in this)

So honestly? He’s the last to find out.

Riley could have told him on a phone call, planned on it actually, but Soap went on about it being too important to not do in person. She still didn’t really care… but then thought about Gaz’s face coming home in a couple months and seeing his former CO and fellow sergeant doing each other’s makeup.

He gets this look on his face when he’s confused that’s, well, adorable honestly. His nose scrunches and he tilts his head like a puppy trying to figure a sound out.

It goes exactly as she expects. Gaz makes that cute face, huffs and shakes his head, then joins in on the shenanigans.

Turns out Gaz is really good at makeup. Was a total mamas boy growing up and would always “help” her out with her makeup. Eventually he got good at it… eventually 😅

He picks up pretty quick what’s going on without directly being told. Seeing the way Riley watches her reflection in the mirror. Moving this way and that to watch the shimmer on her cheeks move in the light.

Notices that she hasn’t trimmed her hair at all since his last deployment, that her clothes are much more flowy and flattering, Soap calls her Riley, bird, doll.

It’s obvious in every way but especially in the glint in her eyes. A happiness in Riley that Gaz never saw in Simon.

They really talk about it once Soap wears himself out and passes out on the couch. She tells him how it’s been good, amazing. She’s happy.

The next day he goes and buys her flowers. “You’re supposed to buy flowers for pretty girls, right?”

Seeing his former lieutenants face light up red while mumbling a quiet “thank you.” leaves a warm bubbling feeling in his chest. He so, so fucking happy for her.

So here’s her coming out to Price

I imagine she tells Price over a smoke. They sit out on the porch of Price’s home, enjoying each other’s company in the dying light as the sun comes to rest.

It becomes a bit of tradition that Ghost pops by at least once a week to keep the old man company. They talk about anything and everything except for their time in the military.

Yes they made it out but that time brings enough darkness into their dreams. These visits are about peace and safety. No need to taint it.

Ghost drops it casually in a lapse of silence. Just a blunt

“I’m going to transition, be a woman.”

Price unfortunately for himself was puffing at his cigar when the news is dropped. He inhales the smoke, a mistake he’s not made since his first cigar, and has a horrid coughing fit.

Once it settles he can’t help but give Ghost an exasperated look.

“I know you did that on purpose you cheeky little shite.”

The smirk on her face only confirms it.

“Well, I’m happy for you. You gonna change your name then?”

“Think I’ll just go by Riley.” She shrugs and that settles it.

They go back to their night as they always do. Have a smoke, a cuppa, and he walks her to her car.

“Get home safe Riley.”

I think she’s known for a while to be honest. Spent a long time denying it before coming to accept it. But even then juggling transition and serving with the 141 just sounded… exhausting?

Retirement gives her time to explore and figure things out at her own pace. It isn’t rushed, there’s no upper command to give her shit about it, no subordinates to reprimand for stepping out of line.

Waiting until she could feel truly safe to be herself pays off in the end. Her support system is strong and she takes it a day at a time. Patience is vital in sniper after all.

Riley always knew Price, Gaz, and Soap would be supportive. That’s all that really matters❤️
