Monster Contest [NOW OPEN]
- The contest will end on May 10th, 2017 at Midnight EST time. Winners will be announced the next day or two after.
Please at least read through the rules section before submitting.
The Monstertale world was created when a flash drive of games was unintentionally introduced to a computer hosting an advanced artificial intelligence. The flash drive just so happened to also harbor a virus that almost immediately grew to rival the artificial intelligence in strength. This dangerous combination caused the original Undertale game to be shredded into pixels. What remained in the black void was one of the only characters capable of fighting the virus, now gifted with sentience.
Spending months alone in the darkness, with nothing more than his own fleeting thoughts and empty memories, Alpha eventually began to create a new world, corrupted and dark and nothing like what he imagined. But what he created was not a world of living, thriving creatures. He created a dying world, where every monster has a limited number of resets before they're permanently erased.
Including him.
As a living person in the real world, you have a crazy amount of control in the monster world; everything from who lives to who dies, to what your avatar looks like, to changing Alpha's personality completely, depending on your actions.
And now we want to give you the opportunity to put your own original creation in the Monstertale world.
There are many different regions in Monstertale, which are notably known as "Biomes" that are separated by extreme firewall doors, requiring keys to be granted entry. For the sake of this contest, we will only be opening a few for submissions, and each Biome name may or may not be it's final name. A list of Biomes you can submit a monster to in this contest are as follows:
1. Snow Biome - Village of krýoméros. Thick snowy forests and vast fields, seperated by floating islands of varying sizes. Surrounded by the vastness of the void around it. Monsters here are accustomed to the cold, and limited light. Monsters here are also never dangerous, and are more intelligent than much of the rest of the world.
2. Water Biome - A region that covers a good 40% of the entire map by itself. Everything here is accustomed to the dark caves and illuminated waters of the underground, that usually stream from the hidden ocean deep within. Everything here glows somehow and is accustomed to the almost constant darkness.
3. Mainframe Biome - The center of the world. This place is littered with robotic/android-like monsters. Generally made of metal, or synthetic fibers, and lots of wires, these monsters usually, but do not need to, have important jobs around this region, tending to important machines and computers that require upkeep and constant reprogramming, due to the virus.
4. Ichor Biome - Monsters here have a strange composition, and sometimes 'bleed' data from their orifices. Some species occassionally radiate a darkness that devours data around them. This is one of the more dangerous biomes, though the danger is not always intentional.
- We can not accept any characters that are similar to original Undertale characters. This includes no AU OC's that resemble original UT characters either.
- If anyone is caught submitting more than two monsters with other accounts, they will be forfeited and reported to DA.
- Submitting a concept art piece of your monster is required. It doesn't have to be good, but if you think you can't draw, get someone who can. This is required.
- You may include what biome you are submitting to, but this is not required.
- You may include any other details about your creation that you wish to share, but this is not required.
- Each person can submit, at most, two monsters, however only one is necessary to enter.
- Try to be original. New and inspiring ideas are where it's at.
- The contest will end on May 10th, 2017 at Midnight EST time. Winners will be announced the next day or two after.
- The number of winners depend on how many monsters are submitted and how many best fit the Monstertale world.
- Winners are chosen by the discretion of Monstertale's creator, Edissero (elli-leimone), and the help of her team. The winning monsters will be chosen depending on how best they fit into the world and can be utilized in the story.
- First Place Winner may also aquire a free, Official monstertale poster (Release Date To Be Announced).
- Key note 1: The constant theme of Monstertale is a sci-fi, cyber-grecian setting. You'll see Greek and technological influence through the entire game. Two other common aspects you will see are crystals, and then disease and illness, which may be observed in the Monsters Astrocytomas and Tinnitus. Your monster is not required to fit these themes, but it may help you win.
- Key note 2: Any monster is capable of being infected by the virus without a moments notice. Though not necessary, it may be fun to think about what your monster would be like when infected, which generally amplifies their looks and abilities, taking on a redish hue. However, please submit monsters before infection, for a better chance at winning.
- It is crucial for you as a submitter to understand that if you are a winner, that certain aspects of your monster may or may not change, which includes the name, the stats, or any other info given about the monster, including what it looks like. You, however, will still be credited for the concept art like every other concept artist on the team, in the Art book and in the Monstertale Comic and Game.
Please respond via comments to this journal with entries, or via asks/submission to the AskMonstertale Tumblr. I will also be searching #MTAprilContest on both sites throughout the contest.
