Honestly, I have no idea when I’m going to get back to it. I stopped because I didn’t think many people were reading it, so I invested my time in other stories. I will complete it someday. I just have too many ideas floating around in my head that are demanding to be written!
Cal's lightsaber in my time travel fic. Mostly posting this to link it on AO3. Some specifications below.
There's probably someone out there who figured the sizes out based on models or smth, but I had fun making it up.
Single - 120 cm
Hilt - 35 cm
Blade - 90 cm
Shoto - 95 cm
Hilt - 25 cm
Blade - 70 cm
Double - 190 cm
Hilt - 55 cm
Blade - 70 cm
Crossguard - 145 cm
Hilt - 50 cm
Blade - 100 cm
Obviously lightsaber sizes tend to vary on height and size, but the average blade length is stated to be 90 cm. A single hilt seems to be at 30 cm and under. Meanwhile Maul's double hilt is 50 cm, and the blade is somewhere between 70-80 cm. But Cal has those kind of oversized emitters, and the prongs add on an extra 5 cm to one side (which is also why the overall length isn't the number that would be total if added up).
Crossguard mostly based on longsword proportions, considering that's def what's it based on. Tho 145 cm would be still considered on the upper end for that.
(And yes the shoto really is that small compared to the primary, as it's based on the in game proportions.)
Now on how they work. In the game the very cool stance switching animations mostly keep it vague on how it comes together (an in pieces just disappear and reappear at will).
The work station seems to imply the secondary hilt needs to be disassembled to be used in the crossguard, but that seems rather unpractical on the battlefield. So while it wouldn't quite work in my artwork, I'm making it so that the secondary's emitter can be slid into the primary's hilt, or by the pommel for the saberstaff.
Anyway, when I made the au, Cal had a beskar saber from the very beginning, but I guess I fucking forgot how that would work with me also writing that he got his components from various other people. Man I don't know how one would do that, but they are the original components just got beskar laminated I guess. Plating seems too thin of a layer for this, tho who knows how beskar works. Laser cladding might be something that could be used for this but I cannot be assed to really look it up. When in doubt blame the Force. I bet there's some interesting ways the Force can be used for smithing.
