I don’t think I’ve ever unfollowed a Dream apologist.

I was trying to figure out why I love the Dream apologist side of my dash so much. My initial thought was that because of the overlap between them and Techno apologists I don’t see them strawmanning Techno apologist arguments as much as other people I follow. Gotta admit that is a bit irritating, and it certainly contributes, but some of my favorite people strawman Philza and Techno arguments and I still like them. So.

That’s it. What makes them so charming is a general respect for other people on the internet, potentially due to extra awareness because so many of them have been sent threats and called abuse apologists just for their preference in fictional characters.

I love how he interacts with other content creators.

Techno always has such a fun mix of making light of everyone (including himself) and supporting them, and it never feels like he’s really demeaning anyone. Sure he trolls Skeppy at every opportunity and makes fun of Dream’s house building and calls Tommy a child, but everything is done in such a lighthearted way and he stops if they don’t play into it.

Then he has sincere moments like complimenting Niki’s pvp and talking with Philza about how awesome Tommy is.

I absolutely could have phrased that better. I guess it would be more correct to say it feels insincere from Techno’s pov. I am but a lowly engineering major, please forgive me 😊 I will go back and fix the phrasing (thanks for helping me notice that), but here’s my reasoning.

In Tommy’s stream (Tommy’s Last Night on the Dream smp, about 10 minutes in) he says his purpose in visiting Technoblade is to get potions for the fight with Dream. Just because he doesn’t outright state intentions to apologize doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to, but he does say he wants to get in and out quickly (like a sneaky little snail) and asks Tubbo for invis potions.

I’m sure he meant it, at least somewhat, since he’s done things on stream that indicate a genuine desire to make amends or at least end things on a less terrible note. That said, his actions while he and Techno were interacting made it seem like solely a distraction technique because it was thrown in with other things Tommy frequently does to stall for time. He goes from changing the subject to pretending like he didn’t actually steal anything to apologizing to asking if it’s too late to start crying, so if you don’t consider those things that we know as viewers it feels like he’s just saying whatever to distract Techno long enough to get out without getting stabbed.

I re-watched the scene just to make sure I didn’t miss anything (this part is seven ish minutes into Technoblade’s Developing the Syndicate stream or 24 into Tommy’s stream for anyone who’s interested). Tommy did say “I’m happy to redo all those things tomorrow or after tomorrow unless I die, in which case I will be dead.” which could absolutely be interpreted as you said given that it comes after his apology. I feel like given the context of the sign he left for Eret (I think?) he was saying he would be willing to repay Techno for the potions. It kinda adds to the insincerity (from Techno’s pov) when he doesn’t come back after not dying except to invite him to the hotel, which Techno doesn’t seem to register as an olive branch.

As Technoblade said, it would have been a lot more convincing if Tommy wasn’t breaking through his walls to rob him.

Rereading this I feel bad cause it makes it sound like I think Tommy’s the only one who needs to apologize for anything. They’ve both done bad things to each-other, I’m only analyzing Tommy because of this ask. Now I just feel like a Ranboo kinnie. There is no winning.
