Worst: This entire episode. But if I have to pick just one thing… Why would you keep Mulder and Scully apart for the entire episode?? In the season - at that point the expected series - finale?!! Whhhhyyyyyyy!!??!?! I truly don’t understand why CC thought we wanted to spend an hour being ranted at about chemtrails rather than see these two characters iconic for their chemistry as partners - brought back for a highly anticipated six part LIMITED series - on screen together. And how everyone else working on this show let this happen.

Rewatch Thoughts:
William check-in: The cliffhanger is ridiculous - and as we later found out would get completely wiped away - but when this originally aired I was at least intrigued by the idea that another season would entail finding William to save Mulder - those are some good stakes at least.
Break-up check-in: Doesn’t matter, there are only 2 minutes left in the episode when they finally appear on screen together 🤪
Oh great, the slap photos down on the table and recap the series opener is back 🙄 - Scully’s version this time. If they’re going to do this at least set it to music and make me FEEL something about these flashbacks like in the 9x06 Trust No 1 opener!
I think this is the first time I’ve rewatched this since finding out in the season 11 opener that this is all William’s vision (or whatever)… So is Scully walking into the office at the beginning “real” and that first flash of her eye the vision starting? That eye moment would indicate that CC knew the whole time that it was a vision and that he wasn’t really going to go through with the apocalypse… When watching originally I assumed that he created a cliffhanger for the purposes of getting picked up for another season and then when it did get picked up he came up with the vision as a way of getting out of it and back to the status quo - but somehow it makes me madder that he NEVER intended to give us a satisfying ending to this cliffhanger and follow through on the consequences of the start of the apocalypse!!

The character assassination of Monica Reyes is infuriating. I just… the minute it leaves the screen I’m like that never happened and I forget it completely. It makes no sense.
Look, this is a show with aliens who have magic healing powers, we’ll buy plenty of nonsense. So if they HAD to bring back CSM after he BLEW UP why not just hand wave it away with an alien healing him?? Going into the details of reconstructive surgery when - once again, we saw his FACE EXPLODE - just draws attention to the ridiculousness of bringing this obsolete character back.
I really don’t like the choppy way this fight between Mulder and the guy sent by CSM is filmed - I blame The Bourne Identity. I miss the original series fighting where it actually felt like real people awkward knocking each other over. Mulder spent his time in isolation learning how to fight I guess.
CSM is justifying everything he’s done because of… climate change? OMFG
I mean I kinda get the original series Syndicate’s plotting to save themselves from an alien invasion they couldn’t stop but what is the point of a self-created apocalypse? 🧐
Great, stoking fears of vaccines, not a good look show!
I mean, our pandemic showed us that vaccines can be pretty developed quickly… but sure, Scully is going to create a cure within a few hours all alone based on one vial of her blood and produce enough of this cure to stop a global pandemic, right.
Once again I will reiterate that I don’t think the word vaccine means what the show thinks it means.
So Mulder’s too sick for Scully’s magic alien dna cure - which she hasn’t even tried on him yet - but will somehow survive until they find their missing son and get stem cells out of him? It’s almost like CC knew he wouldn’t have to follow through on this plot…
At least when this originally aired we thought this might go someplace. Of course we also thought the show might just end up ending with Mulder dying on a bridge as Scully doesn’t even try giving him her hours old untested alien dna cure…
I think rewatching the revival has broken me. This episode is so bad guys 😂

so like i found another reference to the fact that scully is immortal here me out and also answer this for me
in Tithonus when the guy who takes the pictures was explaining to Scully why he never died, he says that it’s because someone else took his place. He was supposed to die but someone else died for him. He says this is why he got left behind and death never came for him.
Well...then a few minutes later, Scully is shot and she is supposed to die but he takes her place. So does this mean that death will never come for Scully because the Fenig took her place???
When Scully asks Clyde Bruckman how she dies, he says, “you don’t”
and then there is the whole immortality thing in season 10 when she in immune to the epidemic and her and William’s alien DNA is the only thing that will save the world sooooooo....... they seem like two totally different types of immortalities?
