Are you familiar with table-top role playing games? I’m making a new character for Call of Cthulhu, and the setting is 1925 Massachusetts. I’d like her to be Jewish, born in North End, Boston to Austrian(?) immigrants, and having graduated from Simmons College. She’ll be starting the game as a newspaper editor recently hired by the Arkham Chronicle. I feel like this character is there and asking to be played, but I’m not Jewish myself and am concerned about playing into prejudicial pitfalls I don’t know I have. Most of my research has returned guides to playing Jewish characters in fantasy settings, but do you have any advice for playing a Jewish character in a historical setting like this?
I'm very flattered you ask, but I'm not Jewish either, nor do I know a lot about Jewish history specifically. Or what this city was like in the 1920s, for that matter. So I can't really speak with any authority on any of these particular topics.
