Homer Plessy Community School 1st Grade, Theatre & ELA Ms. Odile / Ms. Dickerson
Ms. Dickerson’s first grade class went above and beyond with this study. They had been learning about Fairy Tales in ELA. On this particular week, they were looking at the story, “Heckedy Pig”. The students integrated their skills in tableau and pantomime to create unique characters and tell part of the story. The focus within the story was when the ‘mean’ witch turns the children into food. Their mother must in turn guess what food item belongs to which child. Their creative process took two days of collaboration with each other and feedback from their teachers. The first day they re-visited story elements and sharpened their tableau. The second day they brought the images to life with creative movement. Many took the journey very seriously, focusing on their ‘best work’.
