Ok so I have been watching sunny reactions which. I know, terrible idea. I wish I was joking when I say that I have watched every single reaction channel's videos on sunny. I was ready for the inevitable "Dennis is a psychopath." and "Charlie is the sweetest and most innocent of The Gang." commentary. But something I was actually not expecting was the concerning pattern I noticed of the levels of discussion about Charlie's CSA vs Dennis's CSA.
Even starting from sweet Dee's dating, people are already talking about Charlie's CSA trauma. Even though at that point (and even still) it is only heavily implied while Dennis' is solidly canon. I do understand that Charlie's trauma is directly addressed a lot more often considering all of Uncle Jack's appearances as well as Charlie's songs. But even their "reveals" are treated very differently.
Charlie's trauma is spoken of with the expected horror and empathy while Dennis' trauma isn't even talked about period. Every single video I have seen doesn't even mention it. The most I've gotten is a
"Maybe that's why he's so messed up".
And "So this is why he hates women."
and then they have a 15 min discussion about the mediocre-at-best modern art plot.
Even when given the benefit of the doubt and moving onto PTSDEE the most you'll get is a condescending head shaking or a chuckle at any instance of Dennis denying his trauma.
Idk what I was expecting or hoping for but it wasn't this. Like genuinely it's saddening and angering seeing the complete apathy towards this piece of knowledge that defines so much of Dennis' character. It's not even about the fact that they are reacting to Dennis like this but the fact that this probably reflects their real world views on male victims of CSA from female abusers. The best I hope for is that they genuinely just forget about it in the midst of Ongo Gablogian or PTSDee's insane ending (which is honestly pretty understandable) because the thought of it being deliberately ignored is just. Depressing.
