“I hear you’re in the market for a new handyman?” Michael says smoothly as he sidles up to Alex at the bar.

“Geez, can’t keep a secret in this town,” Alex quips, allowing a small smile before taking another swig of his beer.

Michael smiles back, though he looks a little nervous, which Alex attributes to the fact that this is already the most successful small talk they’ve managed in some time. Alex is wrong.

“I think you should hire me,” Michael blurts out. There had been so much more he’d planned to say first.

A story in which Michael and Alex repair everything from the cabin, to their hearts.

comment: reading this fic is like shoving your face into a pile of just-out-of-the-machine laundry. it makes me feel warm and fuzzy, and i bet it’ll do the same for you. it’s utterly sweet from the get-go, when michael offers to come and work for alex as a handyman to fix up the cabin. from there, it’s a slow burn that has them reconnecting and talking about their feelings, vowing to do better and be better for one another. it’s so damn sweet i’m melting just thinking about reading it again!

Months later, Michael shows up on Alex's doorstep in the middle of the night.

"You asked me not to leave you behind," Michael says simply.

"I did," Alex agrees.

"I never promised that," Michael tells him.

Post 1x13, Michael comes to visit Alex before he leaves for space.

comment: i love these “michael plans to leave the planet” fics because they help me deal with the trauma caused by the alex-still-has-the-ship-piece unresolved plot line. well, as long as michael doesn’t actually leave (without alex, at least). which is exactly what this sweet little darling is. the panic and confusion that alex experiences was just so realistic to me, and then trying to convince him into one more night? classic. i won’t spoil how it all goes down but suffice to say: michael does not leave alex behind. enjoy!

comment: this is such an interesting character exploration of michael, with some soft (and hot and heavy) scenes between michael and alex. it starts slow at the beginning, with snapshots throughout michael’s life, leading up to post 1x13 stuff. i love the scenes with alex and the pod squad; i wish the show would explore this dynamic in season two!! the last few snapshots of malex are so sweet and i think it’s so fitting to end the fic on these because that’s the journey the fic’s taken you through. michael’s not a bad man or a bad boy; he’s good, alex knows that, and this fic captures that brilliantly.
