But, just so we’re all cleared up, there are a few ways to define a “virgin” in terms of Rocky Horror. Depending on who you ask a virgin may refer to someone who:

Has never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in any form.

Has never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show and/or The Rocky Horror Show in a theatre setting.

Has never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theatre setting with audience participation and a live shadowcast.

Generally speaking, casts tend to go with definition #3 while selecting virgins for preshow games and shenanigans, while a casual fan may lean toward definition #1. All that really matters, I suppose, when you get down to it, is that a virgin realizes that they don’t quite know what they’ve gotten themselves into when they walk into the theatre.

Happy 2019 Everyone! This Saturday is our first show, and we’re kicking things off with a theme night: Cast in a Hat! We did this show for the first time last year and it was tons of fun!

What does Cast in a Hat mean? Well, actors will show up in costume and makeup for the role they are assigned. However, before the show begins, they will each draw a DIFFERENT character’s name and play that role! For example, whoever is cast as Frank will show up in Frank costuming and makeup, but they may end up playing Brad instead!

Todd, our friend, supporter, and sometimes cameraman, proposed to Brittany (seen here as Columbia) on stage during the credits of our Sock Hop show last night! Apparently it was a big deal and they had like 20 guests in the audience and Brittany just thought they liked her and were their to support her. I didn’t know this was happening, personally, nor did most people or anyone else in the audience, so it was pretty cool.

So, if you hang around Rocky regulars or cast members, chances are you have heard, if only in passing conversation, the phrase “screen accurate.” For shadowcasters, screen accuracy refers to the metric against which the accuracy (i.e., similarity to what is depicted in the film) of costumes, props, make-up, blocking, choreography, acting, and god-knows-what-else is measured.

In short, to be screen accurate is to accurately reflect what is on the screen behind a shadowcaster. Some costume shoes, for example, may be more screen accurate than another pair because they buckle on the same side as the character’s shoes in the film.

While it is in practice impossible (or at least impractical) to be 100% screen accurate with every aspect of the film--colors are distorted on film, certain models of shoes are discontinued, certain patterns are debated, etc.--it serves as a goal toward which shadowcasters can always strive closer.
