Chapter 4: Dragons Don't Do Bitch Work

Fic Summary: I give you Fablehaven: Book Five (and the end of book Four), in which most everything's the same except that Navarog lives to be annoying in the background and make a whole lot of trouble.

Are they technically magical enough to see without the milk?

Like, does Vanessa need the milk? Does Mr. Lich need the milk? Or Torina?

When we last left our heroes…

The Squad saw the second button raising from the floor, it was really big. Lora and Zinnia tried to push it down but didn’t budge. Then everyone tried to press it down  (except Miruk who was keeping the first button in place). That weight was enough to the button to move and open the new door.

Next they found a big throne room and they found themselves with a super fabulous skeleton lounguin and who apparently was expecting them.

The Skeleton was a super suave dude, and surprisingly approachable, greeting the gang with style and elegance. After the presentations they went right into business.

The squad asked about Cat and the skeleton agreed to help them, but they needed to pay them a cuota of somekind. Abdel tried to bargain about gaining a favor, but the skeleton wasn’t interested since Abdel had already a target on his back.

Lark tried to bargain with some flowers suscription, but still wasn’t enough; but seemed interested for future business.

At the end the skeleton proposed this, Lora needed the info, so the squad had to solve some puzzles on several rooms, but  someone had to stay behind in each room.

In the first room Abdel had to press some buttons across all the room with all his body, then Miruk transformed into a mouse and pressed another button inside a mouse hole. Then Lark had to herd some zombies to push another big button. Then Zinnia had to climb a wood beam to an alcove and press another one. At the last room, Lora went into a stairway, at the top of there, the skeleton appeared again. Then started to ake Lora some serious questions about how much she wanted to get at back, and what would she choose between her friends and Cat. In that instant freaky fire elementals appeared in each room. The Squad was getting ready and on defense stance just in case. Lora’s patience was getting short, because she  was sure that her friends were amazing and strong, so she chose Cat.

The skeleton seemed pleased and apparently that information was valuable, and that was enough payment to help them to get Cat.

The skeleton did some magic tricks and on a puff of smoke, the entire squad appeared on a road outside the castle and to their surpise and joy, they found Cat just a head, she was with some fire animals,

Lora’s and Cat’s meeting was so precious, a lot of tears fell. Then Lora traslated the great adventure Cat had on the firelands with her new fire animals and how she was granted the power of resisting fire!!

The Skeleton appeared again and said his goodbyes, rushing them out to the portal to go back to his dimension. Also gave Lark a his business card, his name was Mr. Lich and he’ll keep in touch for the flowers.

Back again at Abdel’s, everyone was happy that the squad returned safe and sound (Abdel returned to his humanoid form btw) , it was a very happy reunion (in the meantime Wolfget closed the portal lol). Xan was very grateful that the squad kept Abdel safe and they took it very well about Abdel’s true nature.

After that adventure, the Squad went back to the inn to rest and have a good refreshing bath, then he heard a knock on the door and it was Wolfget, (he was on his civil facade again btw), he wanted to talk with Lark.

Lark seemed more comfortable now without the hellhounds and dark rituals so they talked for a bit. After that Wolfget went direct to the point, he told Lark that he knew about he was a Demon Hunter and in fact he killed a lot of his demon friends in the past. So asked that he had something to say about that.

Lark was surprised , but explained everything, about how his boss manipulated him and was misguided because of that, killing innocents but that wasn’t an excuse for his actions; he realized that what he was doing was wrong and wanted to make things right again, he really didn’t wanted to be a demon hunter anymore. Wolfget then asked the rest of the squad to confirm that, everyone agreed.

Wolfget continued explaining, he said that Lark has a very bad reputation on the demon world, and his network kept telling him that Lark is not to be trusted; but still wanted to see what was Lark’s perspective about this. That wasn’t gonna affect looking for the cure of the curse and he wasn’t looking for revenge. He just wanted to warn him, because if Lark continues that path, demons are gonna start hunting him and his loved ones.

The squad appreciated his concerns, after that they said their goodbyes.

After all the emotions that happened everyone went to their respectives rooms for the night. Lark planned something very nice for Miruk so he left off a little bit earlier that the rest and set the mood on the room and refreshed himself; and after Miruk arrived to the room sure he was encountered by a pleasing surprise. They talked for a bit, exchanged some thoughts, strong feelings, kisses and more than a few kisses.

At the next morning Zinnia went off early because Wolfget invited her for breakfast but also talk about family stuff and catching up a bit.

Also after Lora woke up, she also found Imoen and invited her and Cat some breakfast, Lora happily accepted.

At breakfast Imoen told Lora that she drop the treasure chest they stole to Rael’s, apparently she was pleased for their success... for Lora’s surprise (and surely for the rest of the squad too when they know lol)also checking out the leads the Squad gave them about the bandits and the ones who tried to kill Abdel. Imoen gave her opinions about Rael, she still doesn’t figure out her since she doesn’t work with the Thieves Guild so she doesn’t trust her too much. Lora told her that based on Zinnia’s perspective, she seemed okay, but is always good to be careful. Then Lora asked about her opinions about Ravenguard and Silvershield.

Abdel and Imoen traveled with Ravenguard on their adventuring days and she seemed more relaxed back then. But since she was thrown to lead the Flaming Fist, she became angrier. Abdel seems to trust Silvershield, since is the only Duke that really wants to help the city at heart, but he seems also more frustrated and desperated.

Lora seemed more worried about Imoen’s well-being because she was working so much. Which Imoen admited that she was worried because she thought they finished with the slayer thing many years ago, but she was grateful that the squad help them to put it down. Also more grateful of accepting Abdel’s true form. Lora reassured her that Abdel is really a good guy and really helped them, he is more of an impressive than  scary.

After a few words, Imoen took her leave, inviting again the squad by the evening after she got some news. After a few minutes Zinnia finally arrived to Lora’s table, they talked about for a while, catching up with the news, Zinnia told her that Wolfget updated her magic mirror and added somekind of a shroud spell, hoping they’ll be safe until they solve everything.

After a while Lark and Miruk finally joined the ladies at the table, Zinnia and Lora were messing with them in a friendly way. Then they talked about what to do for the day, they decided to go to talk with all the npcs, hoping that Ravenguard and Silvershield weren’t too mad with them. Catching up with Rael about how they did on the heist, finishing the tour going with Imoen and the gang.
