It had been quite a while since she last heard from Jade. The last time they’d met was quite a while ago already by now. That in itself isn’t strange, of course, people get busy and time sometimes passes crazy fast. It only becomes a little strange when all of her messages also go unanswered. The situation reminds her much of another time it happened many years ago, and she wonders if something happened again to make Jade leave the island. Somehow she’d thought she would be given a heads up this time, though.

So that day after school, she heads over to the Egyptian apartments. The doorman lets her know Jade no longer lives there, moved to an apartment above her business, apparently. She thanks him for the information and then heads in a different direction, walking over to where she knows Sakura to be. It’s a little bit like their first meeting on the island, her heading over there, only this time she knows who she’ll be meeting there, and she’s heading over on purpose.

he wishes he could have gone to jade straight away, could have turned away the second jordan was secured and well inside the only hell he would know for many, many years to come, but it had been impossible. duties to the council, to other people, have had to come first and the only thing that kept his mind peaceful was the knowledge that jordan was no longer around to torment her and so jade would be safe even if he wasn’t able to visit her straight away.

it’s been long enough now, though, and he doesn’t care about investigations, troubles and other people at this point, he just wants to visit jade and make sure she’s doing well, as well as tell her that the danger has passed and she won’t be harmed by the idiot son of his brother anymore.

so that’s why he finally makes the trip to jade’s new place, the apartment above sakura that he thinks is a good place for her to be. he does agree that staying in the apartment she’d lived in before might only be a bad influence on her general state of mind after what she’s experienced there, so he’s glad she managed to find this place for herself and hopes she’ll have been able to settle in nicely. he’s kept in touch over text, of course, but he knows jade well enough that even if she’d been falling apart at the seams she would still have been telling him she’s fine, so that tells him absolutely nothing.

Jade had seemed off for a while, Diana thought. She had tried not to pry, but it had been more and more noticeable lately and she was incredibly concerned. After all, the other girl had said that she intended to mess with Hwiyoung, so she could only assume something awful had happened there. But then, wouldn't Jade have told her if it had to do with that?

She wasn't sure how to breach the subject. And she had been quiet for too long, she realized, the silence stretching between them as they sat on the park bench with coffees in hand. But then Jade suddenly hugged her. She immediately returned the embrace, pulling her in close and squeezing her tight because it seemed like she needed it.

It had been an introspective time for Adaline, after visiting Jade last. She’d left a little confused and a lot weirded out, but once home and with the space and time to really think it through without needing immediate decision or action, she’d eventually come to the conclusion that even if Jade was having a hard time - or especially because - that meant she could just try to be a supportive friend. If only by reassuring her friend that she was in fact still a friend of hers.

Such friendship of course started with going over and apologising for her off behaviour, which she had done without hesitation and also while holding a flesh-eating succulent. It was hard to explain to someone who just went through something horrible that having no fear sometimes meant not understanding certain reactions, and so she hadn’t, she’d just apologised and told Jade that she should take all the time she needed and Adaline was around for hugs or whatever she wanted.

it had been a while since he’d seen his children and had proper time to interact with them. of course he’d convinced them all to dance at the gala, but that doesn’t count he thinks. though he’s enjoyed it greatly to see them all in their summer best and to make sure they’d all been having a good time. but there’s brief gala interactions and then there’s actually hanging out with his children. so now here he is, overly large picnic basket in one hand, picnic blanket in the other, contently walking down the beach in his swimming trunks and loose summer shirt.

he’s invited them all to a little beach picnic party thing, and he made sure yumi would know that jade was supposed to be there too. his daughter being the assistant of his unofficial daughter had a few upsides. like how he didn’t have to go and drag jade out himself. though he did stop by a few days before to invite her and make it abundantly clear to her as well that when he said ‘beach picnic with his children’ he definitely meant her included. so here he is, his car parked right at the edge of the beach, his hands full of picnic and then three bags with beach stuff hanging off his back as he makes his way down the soft sand to where he can set up his party material.

the blanket is settled down first, so he can put everything else on top of it, and then he takes out the wind shield he brought to put it up already so no sand will blow into the food he spent several hours making just for this picnic. it’s a little bit of everything he knows his kids love to have. once the shield is up, he picks up the two parasols and sets them up as well. last but not least he places all of the fun games he brought at the edge of the blanket; the badminton rackets, the inflatable ball, the other beach games he quickly shopped for two days ago.

"Hey, Jade, what do you think-"

"Of the new lipstick? You look beautiful."

"Huh? How did you...?"

"Of course I noticed. I notice everything about you."

Yumi couldn't wipe the look of surprise off of her face, a soft blush dusting her cheeks. It was not like the new shade of lipstick was drastically different than what she normally wore- maybe just a bit more pink and glossy than usual. So, she was pretty shocked that Jade had noticed it was new without her even saying so. And flattered, for that matter. But she supposed that it should not have been that surprising, since Jade was very observant.
