his parents spent years accepting that they'd never have children of their own, until they had him in their 40's

he was a very sickly baby/child, and because his parents thought they'd never have him in the first place, they spoiled him and let him do whatever he wanted

he ended up with a lot of "non-masculine" hobbies and his parents worried that he'd have a hard time making friends and finding someone who loved him for who he was, but they never tried to change him

at some point he met wilford (as in sir wilford vi) and they became good friends (wilford officiated his wedding)

showed off his oldest child to everyone in the hospital when she was born

cried a little when he had to cut her hair because her younger brother was learning how hands work and kept pulling her hair

threatened to chop his own leg off if his doctor didn't refer him to an orthopedic surgeon
