The actual three type of baddies

Sylvester and Mickey dynamic is sometimes so funny, because Sylvester can just lie the whole time.

I always fond gloomy as a interesting take on a cynical character but he's cynical without being mean and that due the line of work he's in. He isn't trying to crush Mickey dreams like a squridward would do such in the classical Christmas episode. Rather he's warning Mickey of the very real dangers of the given situation they are in. Another major different Gloomy acts more like a mentor figure for Mickey unlike Squidward who given the given episode either a supporting character or straight up the main antagonist. Gloomy on the hand has always seen as a friend to Mickey.

And that's what I like alot about their relationship. In every other story the positive character would ends up bumping heads with the negative character, it's the classical cynical vs optimistic. But they actually work pretty well together with the major example being pirate submarine where they work together to defeat Vulter .

And the reason they work so well together is because Glommy know Mickey is good guy even if seems bit naive at frist and Mickey knows that Gloomy is only worry about the given situation they are in. Meanwhile while spongebob and squridward can get along it usally take a while to get there since their usally in a more low stakes situation ans squids pride and vanity tend to be a problem.

But gloomy isn't very pride or vain, quite the opposite yet he still willingly to step up to plate when things get bad.
