Mount Hoverla
This photo comes from the tallest peak in Ukraine, Mount Hoverla, in the Carpathain Mountains.
The peak is 2061 meters in height and sits within Carpathian Mountains National Park, the oldest national park in Ukraine.
The Carpathian Mountains formed as a result of the same forces that form the other mountains around the Mediterranean Sea. As the ancient Tethys Sea was subducted, fragments of continental crust ran into parts of Europe and Asia, accreting those rocks to the growing continent and causing the growth of inland mountain ranges like the Carpathians.
