Choch squad

The stage lights go up. The fog machine rolls in mist. The crowd goes wild in anticipation. A constant THUMP emanates across the venue, building the energy within the crowd. At the strike of the first chord, the drums reels into a fill so fast the sticks appear to double. After a number of snare and cymbal hits, the drummer settles on the floor tom. He rolls like thunder, with a crash supported by his kick intermittently. The crowd rocks forward in response. They nod their heads in time with the beat. The energy rises and falls like the rails on a rollercoaster. The crowd emulates the intensity of the solo. The drummer slows down with an inverted triplet beat, getting the crowd to lean in even more. As he reaches his last hit, a power chord is played in tandem. It holds out, accompanied by rolls on the cymbals and an enthusiastic greeting shouted out to the crowd. The crowd hoots and hollers back. A distinct “I want to have your babies” is heard in the distance, shouted by a facetious male voice. After a quick swell, the drummer has a brief moment of rest. He whips back his long, dark hair, already damp from sweat. He picks up a Twenty One Pilots hat laying beside him to hold back his unkempt hair. He used to fear the crowd, but now he embraces it. He thinks back to where he started, and is in awe of how far he’s come. The guitarist turns back to him, “Are you ready, Patrick?” “As ready as I’ll ever be,” he pants. And with that, they kicked off the best rock show anyone had ever seen. Excerpt from Circle K and the Can of Cheese-Spray
