Hey! You're getting a surplus of problem asks so I figured I'd give a bit of a victory update! While Ed still won't step up to a singular finger, he'll happily hop onto an open palm. He and my friend's budgie (Budge) are super great friends and Ed loves to be preened, whereas Budge loves to preen! They also follow eachother everywhere. Ed has also begun to explore hands with his beak (he'll nibble on my fingers and ears) all on his own! It's taken a while to get here, but it feels great!

Is there such thing as mixing/hybriding within a species? Ed wasn't sold as a peachface but as a "violet factor lovebird" (his mutation is peachface, however) and is about 4-5 inches long, and when I took him back to the store where I got him (to do his wings and nails) the lovebirds there were significantly bigger, est. 7-8 inches big? I read that ficher's lovebirds are smaller than peachfaces, so would it be possible that he could be a hybrid of sorts?
Yes it’s done quite a lot, most notably with macaws where you’ll get the camelot macaw (catalina and scarlet), Buffwing macaw (buffon’s and green-wing), Harlequin (BG and green wing), the list goes on. They cross breed different subspecies within the same species to develop pointless colour mutations that serve no beneficial purpose other than to look pretty. Hybridizing is not something we want to encourage as it ruins bloodlines and some forms of bad of hybridization can cause health problems, defects, and species that are born to suffer. It’s not quite as bad in birds as it can be in other species since most will be ‘compatible’ and produce fertile offspring but it’s still not something to be encouraged.

So Ed is at my friend's while they do some repair at my apartment (there's water damage and I don't want him to get sick from the mold) and he has a super tame budgie, and while they became instant bffs, I went to visit him today and Budge has encouraged Ed to be a lot more social with humans, and even had him flying and hopping back and forth from my friend and I on his own. Is it common that birds can encourage other birds to be more trusting of humans? It made me so happy to see him have fun!
That’s great to hear! Yes that does happen a lot of the time, poicephalus made a post a little while back about the ways their birds have helped one another become more confident around people and their surroundings. For my two, Mia is super duper skittish but when Zeeby’s around she’ll be much more willing to go to scary locations or scary new people. It’s all a matter of leading by example, plenty of times birds will more willing to do things if they see another bird do it first, similarly to how you may not go bungee jumping without people testing out the cord first.
Ok so ed's eaten so much that you can visually see that his crop is filled and so I've taken away his food dish and he is FREAKING OUT. Like, he's screaming and flailing around rattling the door where I put the food dish?!?!? I would expect this from a conure but not a smaller parrot like a lovebird?? Is there anything I can do to help him calm down?
My guys go nuts over nutriberries too, as soon as I bring some out they beg in every way possible then down them in one sitting so this sort of reaction doesn’t really surprise me to be honest.
I’d just leave him be until he realizes that screaming won’t make the food come back, you could try to distract him with a toy or something but by the sounds of it he’s too motivated for those treats to be interested in anything else. Once he’s calmed down just put his regular pellets back in there just to make sure he isn’t for some reason still hungry and that it is just the nutriberries causing this.

Is there a limit to how long your bird should be eating? Ed's on Roudybush pellets, but I got him some nutriberries this morning and he's been eating at them for close to an hour straight and he usually never stays at his food dish that long. Is he just excited by the new tasty food or should I take them away?
It’s pretty normal for them to want to gorge on a new tasty treat, my guys would probably never leave a millet sprig until the whole thing was gone if I let them. Some birds will overeat and that can cause problems where they become overweight and develop health problems, I would just keep weighing him to make sure his weight is alright. Adult birds generally won’t run in to overloaded crop problems like babies will but still a good idea to keep an eye on his crop and make sure he doesn’t develop hard masses from eating too much.
You must tell us all you know over bird body language
In all honesty that could probably fill an entire TV series, there’s no feasible way I could go over all the different signs, what they mean in different situations, what they mean in different species, how to react to the body language, how to alter responses given different situations, there’s just no way man!
There is the body language tag which is pretty barren, now that you mention it I may start tagging behaviours or moods so if people want to know signs of fear, calm, excitement or things like that it’ll be easy to find some parrotlet examples!

The problem is not so much what the candle is composed of but the fact that fire is still going to be a combustion reaction (O2 + heat are released) that mixes with natural molecules, since the of the wick and natural molecules present (C, H, O) affect the outcome of the combustion both CO2 (carbon dioxide) and CO (carbon monoxide) are common byproducts of the reaction.
As we already know both CO2 and CO are highly dangerous to us in high doses, with an avian respiratory system that makes them even more dangerous as their unique respiratory system causes twice as much CO + CO2 to enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the system. The end result will be dizziness, nausea, hyperventilation, and asphyxiation depending on how much is breathed in and how quickly veterinary assistance can take over.
So while the contents of the candle may affect the overall toxicity of the flame (wicks and candles composed of more carbon or artificial materials will be more harmful than say a beeswax candle) there is still a very high risk of it damaging their system just due to the elements present in our environment.
