How do you cut mortises? Especially in nearly 3 inches (70mm) thick stock? I started with a first we bit and the drill press, then removed material with 1/4" mortising chisel from the corners and finally started to cleaned it all up with a battery of @narextools_cz chisels. Was able to cut the pins as well as the through mortises for the shelves and div… Was in a position to reduce the pins in addition to the by mortises for the cabinets and divider earlier than lunch.

A flexible steel rule made it easy to lay out the slat mortises on the back rail… A versatile metal rule made it straightforward to put out the slat mortises on the again rails. I struggled to carry it in place for some time earlier than I noticed a spring clamp would do the job for me.

To cut the mortises along the back rails, I screwed some curved cauls to my mort… To chop the mortises alongside the again rails, I screwed some curved cauls to my mortiser fence and clamp. I aligned the centerline of every mortise to a centerline I marked on the cauls to chop the mortises.
