I think it's a bit unfair to say the film totally removed the queerness from Ray and Pete's relationship. It's still there. Gary clocks it right away. I take it as a lack of... Understanding on Pete and Ray's part. They know what they have is more than just friendship, and they know that they love each other. But I don't think they know what it really truly was. And I don't think they could properly label it.

I kind of love the absolute lack of Donna in BP2 because you just know things ended horribly between her and Finney. The loss of Robin and the SA by Al has him fucked up so bad. He absolutely flipped out on her the second things started to get intimate and refused to explain why and he never did anything to fix things between them because he'd rather she hate him than to ever let anyone in. Gwen and their dad commented on it but stopped bringing it up when they saw how defensive Finney got over it. Neither of them know exactly what happened between them but they know it was because of what happened to him in the basement.
